30 feet or 30 yards? ... Which is it?

I saw an exerpt from the Foxnews interview. Cheney definitely said "30 feet." I asked another person who was watching.

"30 feet."

I checked the transcript at the website of the Chicago Sun-Times. It says "30 yards."

Do I need a hearing aid or what?

4. At 30', Whittington would be lucky to be alive.

The only way he'd have as elongated a shot pattern at 30' is if he were hit at an angle ... like he was leaning over. The frontal pattern diameter at 30' (10 yards) wouldn't be more than about 12-15". It wouldn't cover his face, neck, shoulder, and upper chest if that surface were perpendicular to the shot trajectory. At the same time, it'd be a real shredder at first down distance. I personally think it was more like 15-20 yards.

Nonetheless, the closer he was the less excuse Cheney has for not seeing him.

8. IMHO, it's due to the attempt to lie about the distance.

Once they begin lying, it's hard for them to keep track of the lying. I believe they tried to make it sound like Whittington was further away so it'd sound more plausible that Cheney didn't know where he was. It's really insane. They had THREE shooters. (Armstrong, by her own recitation, was in the car.) It's NOT tough to keep track of two other people. Anyone who can't doesn't have any business carrying a loaded shotgun. People hunt in larger groups than that all the time ... and come back alive.
