A Republican opinion of the Republican Party (well stated)

As mch as I dislike the current administration, you can't lay the blame/credit for the current state of the Republican Party with Bush the 2nd. It started back in 1992 at what can only be described as the Houston Hate Fest (the Republican Convention) with the choice of Buchanan as speaker. From there we had the "Republican Revolution" of 1994 which ushered in a "New Republican".....the kind of Republican that would hiss "baby killer!" at Governors Whitman, Wilson & Weld as they were doing TV interviews. The elections of 1994, a clear reaction to the Clinton tax hikes, emboldened the right wing of the party who went around crowing that they had finally "earned a seat at the table". The problem is, they never learned any table manners!

1. Interesting thread
Especially the post about the ACLU and NARAL. It's ironic that they don't understand that these are two of the main groups who have been addressing their main concerns, separation of church and state and choice. They're the ones allowing themselves to be manipulated. They're really saying they'll side with the consistent extremism of the fundies over the occasional extremism of the ACLU. Makes no sense. They ought to be Democrats.

2. Correction! It Started With St. Ronnie Raygun.
With Billy Graham licking him all over and Cheney and friends buying Iranian cooperation in the hostage coup to dislodge Carter. And they got their start under Nixon, so perhaps we should go back 30 years. That's nearly all of my life, guys!

4. Dead on the money.
I always laugh (bitterly) to hear this growing crop of sourgrape Republicans — desperate to reconcile the disaster the country is coming to with the conservative/libertarian utopia they envisioned would happen when the 'libruls' were ousted — thumping their chests with this notion that Bush has somehow 'betrayed' the legacy of Reagan.
:wtf:

 Betrayed Reagan's legacy? Here's a clue, you primitive screwheads: GWB is Reagan's legacy. Politically, he is Reagan — Reagan unbound, uncut and undiluted. Bush's America was the America Reagan asked for and couldn't get ... then.

Suck it up, Reaganites. This is your fault. You. You made this monster. And until you realize that, even if you can bring yourself to get rid of it you'll only replace it with another.
