He is regretting what Cheney has gone through, NOT apologizing.

I regret anyone being shot, all the crap they have to go through, but am not apologizing for them being shot.

There is a difference betweeen these 2 things that many seem to be missing. Or else I have missed the apology, in which case I apologize.

1. His words were carefully crafted, which is what makes his reference...
...to being shot on Friday so interesting.

4. Has anyone in the MSM addressed that comment yet?
I haven't got access to CNN or MSRNC so I don't know if people are asking "wtf?"

6. I dunno but you know, if they do, they'll just call it an error...
... and not worth pursuing.

2. read it and decide
My family and I are deeply sorry for all that vice president Cheney has had to go through this past week. We send our love and respect to them as they deal with situations that are much more serious than what we’ve had this week. And we hope that he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation that he deserves.

5. An apology would be "sorry for the trouble I caused". This is not that
This is "sorry for all cheney had to go through", NOT "sorry for causing problems by getting shot". Not expressing any responsibility or fault or apology for himself. Expressing regret, not apologizing. What words we use, are important.

3. Here's quotes, NOT an apology
"Whittington thanked the hospital staff. He also said he was sorry for all the difficulty the vice president and his family had faced. He said the past weekend encompassed ''a cloud of misfortune and sadness.''

''My family and I are are deeply sorry for everything that Vice President cheney and his family had to go through this week,'' Whittington said, appearing emotional in front of television cameras."

This is NOT "I am sorry for getting in the way of cheney's birdshot". It is NOT an apology. We need to quit using these words as it is just buying into the bs. rant off.
