Current Dem bill blocking UAE control of ports is too weak...
...or at best, just a starting place.

It's not about the fact that it's the Ay-rabs, or an Al-Qaeda money launderer proposing to buy the company, it's about the fact that it's a company controlled by ANYONE OTHER THAN AMERICANS.

Look, you can accuse me of xenophobia all you want, but I just think that in the interests of national security and commonfuckingsense, there are some things that should be under the control of the U.S. Government. Or at LEAST of an American corporation, owned by an overwhelming majority of U.S. citizen/company stockholders, who have the responsibilities of citizens and (presumably) the interests of themselves and their fellow-citizens at heart.

Some of those things include ports of entry, critical transportation infrastructure, critical communications infrastructure, critical emergency services, and industrial facilities that produce, store, and/or use certain types of chemical, biological, and/or nuclear materials.

Frankly, I have some problems with any of those things being under the control of people motivated by bottom-line profits at all, but I recognize that's not a very popular view. I'd at least like to see them controlled by people who HAVE to protect the security interests of the country where they live/do business/pay taxes/are subject to the laws and obligations of a citizen, in addition to being motivated by profit.

In terms of "national security," it makes a hell of a lot more sense to me to make sure that such things are under direct U.S. control and/or oversight than spending time snooping billions of phone calls, internet searches, etc.

I dunno, call me nuts...

irritatedly,
Bright
