Question. Why do some diable their profile?
A poster , who has been here for a while , posted an inflamatory bit of info about a Dem candidate and I tried to ask a question(PM) regarding it only to find a disabled profile. Is there a legit reason to do this or are such people suspect?

2. Click on options. New page will show. Click on Preferences
There will be another page will show. One of the things on it is something like "Hide profile" There is a yes and a no to check. Click on YES and your profile will be hidden. Click on NO and your profile will not be hidden to other members of DU.

3. I think I was able to send a PM but initially couldn't. I don't feel
comfortable NOT knowing where some of these posters are from. Of course they could lie! So I guess it doesn't really matter. I was just wondering about hit and runs!

4. You should be able to send them a PM.
Just click on the icon next to their post count.

6. Maybe privacy or something
I at least have basic information like I'm female, my age and state location. Just simple stuff.

7. I don't know.
It's not like you have to put anything in it, in which case it will only have your "member since" date and your number of posts. Hardly major intrusions into one's privacy. It always makes me a little bit suspicious when I see a disabled profile.

10. I certainly appreciate privacy concerns some have but I don't worry too
much about mine...I use my real name all over the internet and other than one Yahoo doofus who pretended to be me for a while & got me some nasty phone calls no problems really...

9. I have done it in the past for personal reasons that have
nothing to do with DU. When the problem was resolved I enabled it again. I have noticed that many who make suspicious posts have disabled their profile.

11. Isn't it disabled by default?
I think I had to go in and enable mine.
