Question for the Women of DU
Russert interviewed Kate O’Bierne tonight. I just couldn’t watch the entire piece, and am mortified that she is of my gender. She’d like to set us back to the dinosaur days.

I truly loathe the ignorant shrew.

Question: Which female, if any, in politico world, makes you sad for our gender?

13. mostly, what makes me sad - and I have been thinking about this a lot...
is that there are two viable female candidates for President (Clinton - D, Rice - R) and I wouldn't vote for either of them.

I would LOVE nothing more than to help vote a woman into the Oval Office for the first time in history. And for the first time in history - two women stand a fighting chance - and I can't vote for either of them.

That makes me very sad.

39. Don't worry about it
neither one of them have a snowballs chance in hell - unless of course they nominate Rice and rig the elections again. Hillary is way too polarizing - and it would be a miracle if this country even elected a woman let alone a black woman. This whole Hillary and Rice running is a figment of the MSM's imagination

But I understand what you are saying - I hope I live to see a woman elected President but neither one of these woman deserve to be President let alone the first woman President....and not only doesn't Condi deserve to be President she belongs in prison....

Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 10:14 PM by Mind_your_head
of womanhood. Personally, I have always felt that her attitudes towards men does everything to debase, emasculate, and lower men.

She, and women like her, believe that men are ONLY sex-driven little boys that need to be catered to by a surrogate (and younger looking) 'mom'.

I really don't see how/why most men would find this attitude toward them 'attractive' - unless the 'man' is of that 'user sort' who is 'out there', but lacking in any sense of love, honesty, or true sense of himself.

Men are AWESOME, but women like Phyllis don't really believe/know that.

on edit adding to clarify: Women and men are equally (but in their different, yet not inferior/superior ways) AWESOME....let the 'long overdue' mutual respect REALLY begin! Ah, then we will really HAVE something beautiful. :-)

That "person" isn't even living in the real world!

Women shouldn't work and should stay home with the kids!

Then, what the HELL DO YOU FEED THEM? HOW THE HELL DO YOU KEEP A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS?

According to that dreamer, your motherly love is enough. They will live on motherly love.

Kids can ACTUALLY EAT motherly love!

Tell that to the Child Protective Authorities who arrest you when your chidren suffer from malnutrition.

Sheesh!

Landlords and mortage companies don't accept motherly love in lieu of payments.

But then again, she's a multimillionaire. She can afford to pay! She can afford to dream.

Hell, she HAS A JOB OUTSIDE OF THE HOME! One that pays MILLIONS OF DOLLARS PER YEAR!

Go figure.

Whatta hipocrite! Laura should be drummed off the airwaves. She KNOWS NOTHING AT ALL

34. Sheesh!
Let me start with Marabel Morgan ("Total Woman"). What an INSULT to thinking women everywhere!

Then there is Schlafly, and Coulter (self-hating women--both of them give new life to the Freudian
diagnosis of "Penis Envy".)
clearly, these two women regret that they weren't born men and want all of the rest of us ladies to
join them in the self-hate festival. Men are better than us! We are mere baby making slaves of no worth!

And then, finally there's Stasi Eldridge ("Captivating"). Did you know that your intelligence and your
strength are IMASCULATING to your husband. Stop being STRONG! Stop being resourseful! Stop being SMART!
Men don't like it!

Sheesh!

35. Every single right-wing female politico
I know there's a ton of those creatures out there, so I'm not even going bother to name them all. These women make me sick, all they do is complain about "the big bad feminists" how they are destroying America and blah, blah, blah, and want women to go back to the kitchen, by spewing forth this crap that has made being a feminist be a bad thing and supporting whole-heartedly right-wing jerks who will more than happy to send women back to the role of suzy homemaker and take away our rights. Yet the funny thing is that they at the same time are using the rights that feminists have won for all women to complain, and seem to have careers, oh my! I personally believe these people aren't real women, or they have some serious self-esteem issues and are really just jealous.

36. None
No female makes me sad for my gender and I've never even thought of such a question.
I doubt George Bush makes men sad for their gender.
What I do get sad about is the constant put downs of women's looks, age, and clothing whether they be on our side or not. Criticize the words and deeds.

I've never seen anyone more filled with venomous hate. I realize it's bad to use the Hitler analogy, but when you see demagoguing and viciousness like that, you realize how entire populations throughout history may have been swayed before the communications revolution enabled people to see more easily that they were being manipulated.

but especially any right wing woman who goes out there shrieking against women's suffrage.

My grandmother and great grandmother were ardent sufragettes. I know how hard they fought to get the vote and how they were ridiculed by men and by their shrewish sisters on the far right.

Very few things arouse a lust for murder in me, but those fucking harpies who want to roll the clock back on the vote do.

57. I think a question we don't consider enough is which women do we love
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 12:31 AM by shance
and revere?

Here are just a sample of terrific women:

The first one that comes to my mind is Rosa Parks.

Sarah Weddington - if you ever have a chance to hear her speak, DO!!!

Barbara Jordan

Molly Ivins - we love this Texas gal

Helen Thomas - she makes us so proud

Jodie Evans and Medea Benjamin of Code Pink. - their fearless and fun activism is inspiring and amazingly effective and is reigniting the women's movement through their pro-peace, anti-war message.

Cindy Sheehan

Arundhati Roy

Helen Caldicott - amazing, inspiring, fearlessly devoted to educating and motivating the world to wake up about the horrific presence of Nuclear Weapons

Margaret Mead - wow.

My freshman English teacher Margaret Troutman

Barbra Streisand - her performance in the Way We Were (one of my all time favorite movies), not to mention her amazingly beautiful voice and her directing works are great gifts to our planet

Alice Walker - the Color Purple and so much more

Eve Ensler - FABULOUS!! Just saw her new play, The Good Body which not only did I like better than the Vagina Monologues, I believe it strikes to the heart of every American woman. It's a must see.

Mary Pickford - an amazingly talented, gifted actress and even producer in her day and in her line of work was very much a man's world

I could add so many more.

Jenna and Tonic.

They are children of privilege and have a wonderful opportunity to open doors and contribute something of value to society. Unlike Chelsea Clinton, the only thing these girls have applied themselves in their post collegiate world is public drunkeness and providing their secret service detail (as well as the CIA detail who deals with the disparaging photos and video tapes) with a never ending series of headaches. With all the opportunity they have and possibles at their disposal, the only place they choose to take a stand is on the top of a bar during "Coyote Ugly" night... and I am truly sorry they are of my gender and representatives of my country.
