who would YOU apologize to for getting shot in the face?
i mean, NO NORMAL HUMAN BEING apologizes to someone who shoots them in the face.
you may or may not press charges.
you may or may not sue them.
you may or may not forgive them.
you may or may not ever speak to them again.
you may or may not seek revenge.
you may or may not remain friends.
you may or may not demand an apology.
but you would NEVER EVER EVER apologize to THEM, no matter WHAT the circumstances.

unless, of course, there was a very big carrot or a very big stick involved.

for instance, if tony soprano shot me in the face, i might consider apologizing to him if he explained to me how, er, beneficial that might be to the health of my family.

alternatively, i might consider apologizing to him if he promised me a extra no-bid contract worth many millions.

either way, there's likely to be some huge corruption going on here (as if there weren't enough already). cheney could theoretically do this sort of thing legitimately by dipping into his personal fortune, but somehow i doubt that that's how he secured the cooperation of mr. shot-in-the-face.

1. well if you allow for a little creative innuendo
I can give you some situations where someone might apologize for getting "shot in the face"

Other than that...

3. well, he's trustworth enough to let next to the veep with a loaded shotgun
so we know damn sure who's side he's on.

though for some, getting shot in the face might challenge one's loyalties.
not for mr. whittington, though.

still, i can't imagine that they didn't do SOMETHING to ensure his continued loyalty.

13. Are you trying to tell us that they might not let a DU member
have a loaded gun near Mr. Cheney? I can't believe that.

I demand that you apologize to Mr. Cheney for that accusation right now!

:sarcasm:

6. Didn't the ground apologize to * when he had his bicycle accidents?
If not I'm sure he expected it, and was furious at the lack of respect.

8. Whittington sounded fucking pathetic. An embarrassment to his family.
Simpering, scraping, boot licker.

If Whittington was my father, I would have put out a stmt to the effect I was worried about bird shot that migrated to his freaking brain.

I think he's positively thrilled to have been personally shot by Dick Cheney - what a souvenir!

Pathetic groupie.

17. If Whittington was your father...
You'd either be a Republican or you'd have been disinherited a long time ago. He obviously has had brain damage for a long time. Google "Funeralgate Whittington"

12. It fits with my theory
that Cheney wasn't the shooter, but set up to take a fall.

Now who would benefit from that?

14. I have to agree with you on this.
It has been my opinion for years that if Cheney still has the ability to shoulder his gun, he can only shoot blanks anyway.

so rudely interrupted your shot, Dick. I promise it will never happen again. Please believe me, it was an accident. I hope that you can see that these things can and do happen. Forgive me, I beg you. Please don't have me killed.

18. no i would apologize actually
it definitely depends on the circumstances but if i were stinkin drunk and shambling around when i got shot, even if my friend was stinkin drunk and shambling around also when he shot me -- which i believe to be what happened -- i would feel bad

hell, i'm a girl, i've tripped over a chair before and said "excuse me"

i could insert a long boring story here but i won't

let's just say that when bad things happen by accident, the mind struggles for an explanation and you blame yourself as a way of getting control

if whittington blames himself, he can get up and go on, and feel it won't happen again

been there, done that, got that t-shirt

i don't doubt for a minute that both men feel terrible or that both men want to protect cheney from the consequences of drunk shooting because, well, i can empathize that this is something that real world can happen to people, it's all fun and games until somebody's eye is poked out, as they used to say on british teevee

i see no conspiracy or falseness in whittington apologizing, that's real, the conspiracy is how they circled the wagons to prevent cheney from being alcohol tested in a timely fashion

and, honestly, if it were my friend who i cared abt, i'd do the same and you may not think so right now -- but when it happens to you, you will do the same also

humans are chivalrous by nature it's almost the best thing abt us

In the old days, we laughed about stories like this in the USSR.
