2. My take on the apology issue is here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=463734&mesg_id=463734

No replies, so here it is again:
I was wrong, it IS OK to frame it as an "apology".

While I don't think Whittington apologized (think he expressed regret at the whole thing and the trouble Cheney is going through), I was wrong about complaining about this. Framing it as an apology is getting more press, and more people angry at the administration's arrogance, people who up until now didn't speak out against the administration. So, frame it as an apology. Get more people angry about it and perhaps change will happen.

I will leave my rant about "why does it take an apology to change some people's minds when so much worse has happened" for another time.

5. whittingon was paraded out there
the same day Cheney spoke to his home state legislature and apologized to cheney for shooting him. it was timed to promote the image that all was ok and the crises was behind them. by the way was cheney scheduled to speak in front of the leg prior to the shooting?

whittington knew the import of what he was doing. you think he did this on his own?

6. I think he is staunch conservative republican.
Don't know if he had extra pressure on him, or if he just wanted to make a public statement in the hopes that it would all die down. So to speak. Anyway, I think he was expressing regret and hoping it would all just fade off into people's memories, along with everything else, but that MSM continuing to publish "he apologized for getting shot" actually is good.
