Media Matters: RW bias Sunday talk. Mildly improved on MTP today
David Brock was on the Al Franken show Wednesday and discussed the study by Media Matters:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200602140002 (Has contact info for the talk shows)

Today on MTP, Mary Matalin, Paul Gigot (WSJ Editorial page editor, you know the folks who Carville said Novak was trying to show off for right before Novak walked off CNN in a huff as a copy of "Who's Who" lay neglected on the table?)

And Maureen Dowd and David Gregory. Dowd tending to be critical of anyone in office, but by today's standards she is more liberal than neocon. Gregory simply trying to be a journalist, a real journalist, as revolutionary an idea as that is these days.

I wouldn't call it balanced, but at least there were 2 people who were NOT RW pundits, politicos.

At least Maureen Dowd and David Gregory could bounce off one another's statements. I can't recall last time I saw that on one of these National Sunday morning TV talk Round Tables or panels.

MM kept saying "we" in reference to VP Cheney's strategy and decision making team. Once she said she didn't work for him anymore, but she kept speaking as an insider to the decision making process regarding contacting the press etc. "We made a judgement call..." etc etc. Amazing example of double think there.

I plan to write to MTP and NBC and cite the study, and tell them today was a bit better, but really not balanced. The page at Media Matters has links to the talk shows and networks if we want to send comments.

Gigot and Matalin are far from being journalists in any sense. They are so heavily involved in the GOP, Neocon workings.

3. What's the difference again? ;)
RW politcal operative, posing as journalist.

Heavy duty editor, hack for RW neocons.

Or does the difference matter?

2. My email to mtp@nbc.com
Subject: "Right/left balance of "pundits" on MTP mildly improved today

I've read the following from Media Matters:

"If It's Sunday, It's Conservative: An analysis of the Sunday talk show guests on ABC, CBS, and NBC, 1997 - 2005"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200602140002

Today's round table or panel was Matalin, Gigot, Dowd, and Gregory.

Matalin is at least a former operative with Cheney, although she kept speaking as an insider to the decision making process re the Cheney hunting debacle.

Gigot is the WSJ Editorial page editor, you know the folks who Carville said Novak was trying to show off for right before Novak walked off CNN in a huff and Novak was terminated from CNN.

Dowd tends to be critical of anyone in office, but by today's standards she is more liberal than neocon.

Gregory is simply trying to be a journalist, a real journalist, as revolutionary an idea as that is these days.

So I must admit it was far closer to "balanced" than it is most weeks, it has a ways to go to achieve real balance.

If this was an attempt to move towards balance, great!

Please continue to work towards that to achieve REAL balance!"

4. Email to "This Week"
"Right/left balance of "pundits."

I've read the following from Media Matters:

"If It's Sunday, It's Conservative: An analysis of the Sunday talk show guests on ABC, CBS, and NBC, 1997 - 2005"

http://mediamatters.org/items/200602140002

Today on This Week:

George Will: Conservative former operative of Reagan's.

Katrina Vanden Heuvel: Liberal

Cokie Roberts: NOT liberal, generally takes the GOP, Admin, Neocon line.

Come on George! Just cause your roots are in the Democratic party doesn't mean you can't have an even numbered panel with equal right-wing, left-wing.

Please try it, you might like it!"

5. One Week Vs. 10 Years...
ABC invited Katrina Van den Huevel...an improvement there. But that's this week...and the big story is the pilling of on Chenney...a rare week where a Repugnican is under fire by the corporate media. Next week it could be back on how "Democrats are using the Chenney story"...blah, blah and there'll be Byron York or Rich Lowery or some other wingnut shill giving unchecked Rovian talking points with a weak-kneed "liberal" or "neutral" to try to refute them.

This morning's Washington Journal was a prime example. Besides vitually scripting the whole show out of the headlines of the Moonie Times, the host brought on a blowhard Repugnican blonde spinster vs. a weak-knee'd "Liberal" who kept either backtracking or apologizing and filled the stereotype MM portrayed to a T.

The good news is our voices are getting stronger and louder. Between Air America, blogs and some awakening journalists, the bullshit that went unchecked from lie to fact is no longer spinning as effectively. It must suck being a Repugnican apologist these days...every day is another mess to cover up.

6. Still that was ONLY one liberal. I've seen her on the show before.
But that wasn't even one week of balance, IMHO.

I emailed him about it.

I meant only MTP seemed a little better this week.

Might help if we write to them and let them know we want more balance.

I didn't like everyone laughing as Katrina was talking about something serious.

Will is so pretentious I can hardly stand to listen to him.

7. Shutting Down The Mighty Wurlitzer
I love that term...and aptly named. The inside-the-beltway crowd is self-absorbed with their access and bylines and airtime and drinkie-drinkie parties. It's a seen and be seen game...playing favor as it means getting that "big scoop" or landing the big interivew. The right wing has played off this very effectively...intimidating these people into becoming stenographers. Just recently, I'm starting to see a few...Gregory and even Dana Milbank start to blow past the bullshit and stick to the substance...but they're still a minority.

Russert remains extremely conflicted due to his close relationship with Scooter. He still hasn't come clean about his involvement shows whose more important to him...and it surely aren't the viewers and the American people.

The corporate media isn't used to a lot of pushback from our side. They expect it when they trash a Democrat...it went from stopping being called the "liberal media" to being rewarded by this regime for playing a part in the Mighty Wurlitzer. Here's hoping the worst days of some of us screaming in silence is over.

Cheers...

8. I've got my fingers and toes crossed on that one. We can make
noise too.

It has to get better, I hope.
