Paul Hackett To Be On 'Hardball' Today (2\20) !!! - And...
the promo made it seem that Tweety is gonna go after the Dems for this fiasco.

Could be interesting.

This is for Schumer, and Reid, et.al....

1. Oh god...
It certainly is a perfect time for Dems to smear other Dems.

I was a Hackett fan before, but he is taking this too far if Tweety's show is going to be all about bashing Dems for this.

I would agree with that assessment
Nothing could be better for the republicans than this.

I don't think he will do that though.

2. If Hackett is so pissed off why didn't he just stay in the race?
Move-on, DFA and others would have financed him.

5. why wasn't there just a primary between him and Brown?
I don't agree with the pressure which some party leaders exerted on him, but he also had a choice to stay in the race.

7. That's What I'm Thinking...
It feels like Tweety wants to use Hackett to thrash the Dem 'Leadership', and I'm hoping Paul will be a good soldier here and tamp Tweety down.

Not that Schumer, Reid, et. al. deserve it, but I don't think Paul wants to throw a wrench in the move to oust the republican congress.

Just a guess...

11. But what did Reid do to Hackett?
The only thing I've seen is that he called Hackett man to man and asked about the photos. He had a face to face meeting with Hackett. His office cleared Hackett on the photos. Reid has said he's never called anybody to work against Hackett. Hackett has never said Reid did. Hacket has said more than once that Reid was never anything but great to him. I just don't see how Reid has earned this anomosity. Can you enlighten me? How does Reid deserve it? I honestly don't get it.

14. See This Article...
<snip>

Over the past several months, however, the Ohio Republican Party has suffered a series of damaging scandals, making DeWine an endangered incumbent. Meanwhile, Hackett has offended Republicans – and some non-Republicans – by talking bluntly.

Earlier this year, Hackett came under criticism for saying that the Republican Party had been hijacked by religious extremists who “aren’t a whole lot different than Osama bin Laden.” Instead of apologizing, Hackett declared, “I said it. I meant it. I stand behind it.”

Suddenly, the state and national Democratic leaders were changing their calculations, favoring a more traditional and experienced Democrat, someone like Rep. Brown, a longtime fixture in Ohio politics.

So, according to Hackett, for the past two weeks, party leaders, including Senators Harry Reid and Charles Schumer, have urged him to drop out and run instead for a House seat, an option that Hackett had previously forsworn.

While agreeing to withdraw from the Senate contest on Feb. 13, Hackett said he would not go back on his word to other Democrats about not running for the House seat.

“This is an extremely disappointing decision that I feel has been forced on me,” Hackett said. “For me, this is a second betrayal. First, my government misused and mismanaged the military in Iraq, and now my own party is afraid to support candidates like me.”

The Hackett fiasco upset rank-and-file Democrats trying to recruit Iraq War veterans to challenge Republicans. “Now is a time for Democrats to be courting, not blocking, veterans who want to run,” complained Mike Lyon, executive director for the Band of Brothers, a group urging veterans to run as Democrats.

16. Yes, the articles do say that
But with no quotes from Hackett blaming Reid. In the interviews I've listened to Hackett clearly blames Schumer and Brown, but no bad word for Reid. Reid outright denies all of it and Hackett doesn't say Reid is lying. He just says Reid treated him great and was never anything but supportive. That's why it's been confusing. Hackett doesn't seem to view Reid as the villain in the piece, but everybody else does.

17. I'm Just Mad At The Whole Fiasco...
I'm sure it was more Schumer-driven, but goddamn it, we don't need this kind of shit. It makes us all look like ANOTHER gang-that-can't-shoot-straight, and it seems like something Rove would do.

I wanna win as much as anybody, but I don't want us to become what we hate and deplore, in order to do that!

6. I don't think Hackett will be a bad boy.
I was thinking last week that it would be great if he offered himself as the "go to guy" for the networks and cabal news if they wanted to talk about what an Iraq vet might be thinking.

When he was a candidate for office they could not use him in that way but now they can - I hope to see him all over the place as an authority on what is going wrong in Iraq.

10. That would be the very smart play for Hackett.
It would also give him a national profile and show that dems are the trusted leaders on national security. Hackett could actually rise from the Ohio burnt ashes bigger and better than ever with an even larger fan base and morally standing up for veterans of this bush travesty.

8. If Hackett goes on Hardball to attack the dems.
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 03:18 PM by Beelzebud
Then he was never a fucking democrat to begin with. If he plays into this right-wing bullshit, he'll be on my personal "Dead To Me" list.

If he were truely dedicated to turning the Democratic party around, he would have stayed in his race, or ran against MeanJean again.

If he doesn't attack the dems, he won't be on my "dead to me" list, but I still have questions about his motives for his entire stint in politics.

13. He didn't have to drop out. It was his choice, even if the Dem
higher-ups were encourageing him to in order to avoid a primary race. The Repub higher-ups have tried to get Petro or Blackwell to drop out of the Ohio Governor's race in order to avoid a primary but neither one of them did. But, seriously, I think Hackett would have been better off challenging Schmidt again; he probably would have won this time. I think going for Senate would be a challenge for someone with no prior political experience. So hopefully he's not on HardBall to make the Dems look bad. Especially the Ohio Dems. We need all the help we can get to pull this state out of the dumpster. We don't need in-fighting.
