Bush administration may be effectively over - Digby
Empty Veto

by digby

So Bush says he'll veto any legislation to block the port deal. He says that his government knows what it's doing and wouldn't have ok'd the deal if it would harm the nation's security. This is the same government that did such a great job with Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath of the Iraq invasion.

Assuming that we aren't seeing some sort of kabuki here, it appears that the Eunuch Caucus is getting an earful from their constituents and see no margin in working with the lame albatross right now. He's threatened vetoes before and the invertebrate Republicans have always fallen into line. This time appears to be different.

If this is true, the Bush administration may be effectively over.

1. It Will Be Fun To Watch Which Repubs Are Otraged Now, But Then Somehow
become "reassured" and change their stance.

I'll believe it when I see it, of course. The guy's stupid and the people around him are insane. It is really getting scary, but if this is what it takes to open some people's eyes...

4. I'd love to believe it
But this awful pretender has more lives than Freddy and Jason put together, and he's far more horrifying.

I'll believe the administration is over when Bush does the perp walk.

5. No one up for reelection would dare to NOT vote to override this veto
It will be such an embarassment for him.

6. I hope so. It will take Republicans to demand an investigation or
I should say investigations of the many treasonous acts this administration is doing with impunity to demand impeachment. If enough Republicans feel that they have had enough, they might join with the Democrats to get the ball rolling.

11. I've been wondering the same thing -
Will he tell America that you can't switch horses in midstream?

After all, I think that's what all the talk of executive power has been leading to - he can do whatever he wants as a result of the war and no one calls him on it, the next step is to announce he's suspended elections because of his wartime powers. This ensures that he doesn't run into problems Reagan and HW did.

12. You're right on the mark!
It's been coming to this since we went into Iraq. I've been telling folks he doesn't plan on leaving office, he can't afford to. And he can't afford to let Dem's take over congress, if a Dem take over happens they'll investigate his admin.

They my have enough Die Bold machines in place to keep the Dem's out in 06, if not look for a terrorist attack or Bird flu quarantine to stop elections.

Administration. I've taken to calling it the Baron and PNAC Rule as I fervently feel that Dick Devious and George and all surrounding them are only tools the the Barons - a front that maintains an illustion that the people of this country run things through votes and taxes.

The Barons want this, did this, and they don't want their faces on the screens in your living room or kitchen.

This is hardly the Bush Adminstration. More importantly, the Barons aren't through with their agenda.
