You need to read this old LA Times article on Bin Laden and the UAE!

Agency during the Clinton administration. "It was mostly Soviet weapons,
small arms--Kalashnikovs and RPG-7s rocket launchers].""

and

"U.S. security officials were aware that Al Qaeda terrorists flew on
Ariana "to the UAE and other points in the Gulf," Simon added."

Something tells me the UAE connection to Al Qaeda was much deeper than we've been led to believe.
