Poll question: dating outside of your political ideology....
I won't do it..... i don't care how hot the guy is, how much else we have in common....
some things are just too important.

2. I believe the root cause of my divorce
was Ronald Reagan. Since that time, I've NEVER dated anyone who didn't see fairly close to eye-to-eye politically. It is very important to me. I know of couples who are "mixed" politically, and they choose to never discuss politics. I believe it is a shame that a subject is taboo with your own partner, but I'm told that it doesn't really matter to them.

3. I didn't think to ask DH
when we married many years ago. Thankfully we have come to the same conclusions about this administration.

4. NEVER
at least with the republican party in it's present state
of corruption. dishonesty, and christo-fascism..
I could never respect someone who buys into
their agenda. The republicans today stand for everything
hateful, greedy, unamerican and wrong... and those
aren't mere words....

5. If I found a gal who (supposedly) loved me and also liked Mortimer Smirk
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 10:02 AM by TahitiNut
... I think I'd be insulted and strive to examine my personality flaws that led to such a perception.

No... I'm NOT kidding.

7. What is this "Date" thing of which you speak?
Seriously, it's been so long since I've been on a date, I don't know what it feels like any more.

Nevertheless, I could probably date a person a couple of times before deciding we just didn't have that much in common. I'm not unwilling to spend a night out with otherwise agreeable company.

However, for LTR material, no. We'd have to have similar views. I would need someone who is supportive of my outlook, including politics. But this is all hypothetical anyway. I've never seen such a person. :-(

19. Neat little aphorisms are nice
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 11:15 AM by supernova
But honestly, with my particular temperament, I require some time getting to know a person first, finding out if I even like their company at all. (That whole meeting somebody in a Laundromat for 5 minutes and seeing stars in my eyes just doesn't work for me. That has happened, but never to a good end. I don't trust my instincts.)

While I understand what you're saying, how do I balance that out with guys who claim they like to chase better?

The older I get the less I know.

edit: Spelling.

9. I don't care IF she thinks, much less WHAT she thinks!
Courtesy of the ant-feminist branch of the liberal wing.

Oh, and for all you die hards out there, simply replace the word she for he, and that works too. And you women better stop denying that you think most men are idiots, because we know thats what you think. Don't worry though; as long as you are hot you can say whatever you want, just so long as you know what to do when its time to be quiet.

In order to be a Republican these days one must accept greed, bigotry and selfishness as your guiding values.

15. Have an open mind. Live and boink gleefully. Then convince them to
join your side via persuasion and rational argument.

I suspect "the other half" would try the same thing... but nobody's perfect.

20. I'm dating a liberal Rethug right now
I think I can start the deprogramming soon, since a lot of his political leanings are more Dem than rethug. He's pro-choice, pro-gay-rights, and he's a pagan. I think he identifies as rethug only because his family has always been rethugs.

22. "Only if we already have other stuff in common too...."
That was my choice. Of course, they CANNOT be the type of dumb@ss that parrots GOP Newspeak, like "Islamofascist" and "homocide bomber". Fiscal conservatives (does such a thing exists any more?) are OK. Social conservatives I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

24. Hmm, let's see...
Republicanism stands for self interest above all else, greed, religious fanaticism, militarism, government indifference (or even hostility) to people in need, and corporate profits above a decent quality of life. Yeah, someone who supports those things would make a great life partner!
