President Bush was on the ground in Cincinnati less than three hours Thursday, but his presence at a fundraiser in an Indian Hill home put $1.1 million in the campaign account of Sen. Mike DeWine.
Bush spent about 1½ hours at the home of Mark and Margie Hauser on a quiet Indian Hill cul-de-sac late Thursday afternoon to boost the campaign of DeWine, a Republican senator who sometimes parts ways with the Bush administration, but who was grateful for the president's help.
"Believe me, I was very happy to see him come in for me," DeWine told The Enquirer after Air Force One left Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport about 7 p.m. "It was a great event, a huge boost to our campaign."
About 250 DeWine supporters - a who's who of Cincinnati corporate executives, Republican elected officials, and DeWine campaign leaders - paid $2,100 each and $4,200 per couple for a chance to shake hands with the president and listen to a speech that lasted at least a half-hour, according to attendees....
