Lay it squarely on their shoulders. The nanny-nanny-boo-boo approach tends to make them recoil and become defensive, offering knee-jerk comebacks learned from years of Rushing. But by attempting to force them to think about the very real consequences of their support for the illegal war and the Bush regime, ah...then you can really begin to get to them. Many good people are republicans, I swear! I know some of them, who gleefully followed Bush along his merry path of destruction, because they really did benefit from his tax cuts (DINKs, I think they're called). In particular, a married couple we hang with: she doesn't talk politics at all anymore, just kind of pretends nothing happened, and he's been claiming he's a libertarian since just after Bush was re-coronated. Libertarian, my ass. I rag him about Bush so much now, I quite honestly feel badly for him. I mean, the guy is still my friend, but holy christ, it makes you wonder about how some people can be so smart and so dumb at the same time. This couple was totally about the money side of it. They had no kids, and therefore didn't get the tax deductions, yet still have to pay for schools, blah, blah, blah. Cry me a river in your 4000 sf McMansion, you guys! Anyway, it's almost too easy a target to rag on him now. When a guy is laying on the ground bleeding, isn't it considered a cheap shot to kick him in the head again?
So, I applaud your efforts to keep it in the Bushies' faces. But be cautious in your approach, or you may be in for a few surprises. People who still support Bush at this point can't necessarily be considered stable!
