I can tell you right now what is going to happen to the Port scandal.
The republicans will be all over the media questioning the deal and thumping their chests about how concerned they are about terrorism. How many Democrats did you see on the Sunday morning talk shows? The whole purpose is to further distance themselves from Bush for the 2006 elections. You will see more and more opposition to the President by republicans. Its all part of the game.

Will the port deal go through? Probably because there is little Congress can do. The media spin will still make the Republicans look like the winners. Its the same over and over...

1. I have been arguing the same thing since the beginning. Bush
is not running for anything and is going to take one for the team on the ports deal. This is what happened at that secret meeting a while back. It also gives him cover with his Arab pals (not his fault, never is). Very Rovian. After the elections they will be back to kissing Dubyah's ass.

7. Well. allright then, he is doing what his handlers tell him to, which
is to stage a Potemkin battle with Congress.

2. I think you may be misreading the port deal. There are very....
...few people that are happy with the way this went down, and even less happy that it is actually 21 ports involved instead of the 6 ports were were initially told.

The Congressional GOPers realize that they have to act quickly to salvage the 2006 elections.

3. The constituents are...
running this scandal, and I not think it is going to happen. You are underestimating the chimp's ability to fuck up.

8. We do need to figure out how to keep the GOP in the hotseat.
In that vein the Abramoff Scandal is more important than the UAE port issue.

9. I'm not so sure
Killing the port deal will help Repubs a little, but still hurt Bush, and anything that hurts Bush, hurts them.

Plus, now port security is a major campaign issue.

Note Heather Wilson's hemming and hawing when Bill Maher asked her about not voting for $400 million in port security.

I'm not exactly sure where the Dems stand vs the Repubs in all the port security votes over the last few years, but
there are quite a few who can bring it up as a major issue.

10. I really don't think this will go thru.
I think he finally united this country...

this is just too insane. His party knows better, especially
during an election year.

11. I was talking to Kathy Malloy tonight
and that's Mike's take on it, too.

So far as the GOP distancing themselves for the sake of winning the 2006 midterm election(s).
