Dean and Cegelis on Air America Radio Tonight...
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 03:35 PM by Kevin Spidel
Jim Dean and Christine Cegelis will be on the Laura Flanders show tonight to talk about the pressure grassroots democrats are getting from the "beltway boys."

From the Air America website: "Grassroots activists and the Democratic Party. From the Chicago suburbs, congressional candidate CHRISTINE CEGELIS on her-up-from-below primary campaign and JIM DEAN, of Democracy for America, on why the party needs the real thing, not astro-turf."

If you have not heard about this race by now.. I urge you to check this segment out. Read here for more:

And here about the DFA and PDA endorsement of Cegelis for Congress:

DFA - http://www.cegelisforcongress.com/node/255
PDA - http://blog.pdamerica.org/?p=492

and the Nation's take on it: http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?bid=15&pid=62706
and: http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?pid=62635

and from the blogsphere: http://michael_in_chicago.mydd.com/story/2006/1/26/224315/389

If you haven't heard about this race.. take time to listen tonight. if you have.. please... tell others. This IS truely a fight of how Democrats run campaigns from here on out. From remote control beltway advisors and no field/infrastructure to keep the district engaged and blue... or a full blown hundreds out in the street grassroots effort.

listen, comment, tell others. No matter what your side.. i think you will agree with this blogger:

"As I have said from the time that the Washington Democrats started trolling for a 6th District candidate, this primary will be a showdown between two fundamentally distinct campaign styles: a high-tech, D.C.-funded advertising blitz versus a 6th District resident's grass-roots team of neighbors talking to neighbors." - from: http://capitalfax.blogspot.com/2006/02/cegelis-supported-by-deans-national.html

2. thanks for the k&r...
most people in DU don't fully understand the ramifications of this race. It really is not on many people's radar as it should be. This is a serious toe to toe with Rahm, the DCCC and the future of the party. We know we have the Chairman's support.. and the support of many Democrats in the House... If we win.. this will be a revamp for how the DCCC fields, runs, and wins campaigns.

4. I listened to a forum with all 3 of them.
It was on public radio there, lost the site.

I was struck at how opposed Lindy Scott is to abortion, but never really committed to a stance. He is going after the religious vote.

NOW what really struck me was when Duckworth said she thought she better get into this district as it needed some leadership. I was stunned by that. Stunned.

How dare she say that in front of Christine.

According to some posters on this message board, going against
the "insider's" candidate is "doing the GOP's work for them."

Hell, you might even be called a "PAID ROVE OPERATIVE".

That said, I'm glad that Cegelis is hanging tough.
I hope that it will be enough.

12. yeah point out that duckworth has waffled on choice, and
you are making a personal attack.
ask the question 'who's your daddy?' and you are being childish and ignorant. one of those situations where you know you are on the right track. i, for one, am happy to be know by the quality of my enemies.

5. Rahm-vs-Grassroots
Many people here in IL-06 just don't get that this is a battle for the very heart & soul of the Democratic party...Both nationally, and here in DuPage County. The outcome of this race will have ramifications for many years to come.

in the thread title, so that people won't expect Howard Dean on the radio tonight.

18. I just got back from canvassing this afternoon
for Christine. I can tell you this. Of all the people I have talked to in the precinct I am working, only one has even mentioned Duckworth's name. By and large everyone knew who Christine was and were very supportive. I just don't think you can replace one-on-one interaction with voters with radio and TV spots. I know that in the next 3 weeks I will be going back and seeing some of these same people 2 and 3 times. I think they like seeing people passionate about a candidate.

29. the issue is critically important; the show is weak so far ...
they've mentioned the "grassroots vs. DCCC" theme a couple of times but they haven't adequately clarified what the differences are or why they're important ...

what have we learned about Cegalis' views, or Duckworth's views, on the big issues ... talking about a school for autistic kids, while important, really fails to speak to the national radio audience ...

this show should be "taking off the gloves"; at the halfway point, it isn't ...

for those monitoring the show with access to the host, "up the intensity' a few notches ... let's start landing some punches ...

just my two cents ...

35. the second half has been MUCH better
they needed to differentiate where Cegalis and Duckworth disagree on the issues ...

the problem in this race is NOT just the interference from the DCCC but also what issue positions the DCCC is pushing ...

I loved Cegalis' answer on Iraq (supports the Murtha plan) and on healthcare (medical companies make money by denying or delaying claims) ...

a slow start; a powerful finish !!

It was reprinted from the Washington Post, and it didn't even mention that she has a primary opponent.

DFA was not planning to get involved at the national level, though locals were working with her already.

Yes, that is one way of putting it...I did a search on the terms "christine cegelis" two days ago. I got bunches of articles and pictures of Duckworth.

Cegelis was mentioned casually. The DCCC wants a veteran in the race.
