Pictures from KC anti-war protests
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 11:31 PM by proud2Blib
Every Sunday since the war in Iraq started, there is a protest at the JC Nichols Fountain on The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO

This is my favorite sign:

DUers Patrice and kiteinthewind:

I love this guy's outfit! He is wearing a white hat that says 'NSA' and he has a pair of binoculars around his neck. He 'watches' all the cars that drive by! :scared:

Impeach Bush:

This guy has a double sided sign:

This is a great sign:

There are little ribbons all over it withe the names of soldiers who have been killed:

Is it 1984 already?

This guy updates his sign weekly

Here is Patrice explaining her sign to an invading fundie freeper. Her sign says 'Jesus is Still Here and WE Are Still Killing Him'.

And the freeper finally gave up on Patrice and started talking to two nice young girls

4. I will pass that along to the group
I am not good about being there every week. But there are some who never miss. The guy in the wheelchair is there every single Sunday.

8. You are most welcome
It is a really neat group of people. They also protest every Tuesday at another busy intersection in KC. Rain, snow, cold, heat - they are very faithful. I really respect that.

10. It can be red state hell here
But amazingly, we get lots and lots of honks and only one or two haters driving by.

13. Great Pix!
It looks like a pretty dynamic protest, adapting weekly according to current events. Even if counter protesters show up and remain civil, it's the stuff of freedom.

Nice job, thanx.
(That NSA guy shows great humor and yet makes a good point.)

16. I don't think there have ever been any counter protesters
kiteinthewind's sign has pictures of injured Iraqi children. When people pull up and say bad things, she hands them a picture of an injured kid. That shuts them up every time. A guy today pulled up and told us his son volunteered to go to Iraq and is proud of what he is doing. So he got a picture and he stopped talking. LOL I was thinking yeah sure he's proud, it makes Dad feel better to think that . . .

The army recruitng office is just a few blocks away. So a few young people who don't like the protest have been pointed in that direction so they can sign up.

30. There were quite a few counter protestors the first year.
They showed up at the same time we did and mixed in. One time there were almost 30 of them, but we out-numbered them anyway. I tried to talk to them and found out that they were pretty un-informed.

33. Hi Anne. They used a variety of noise makers any time one of us
started trying to educate them. They drowned conversation out unless you shouted like a crazy person.

19. Every Sunday is an incredible commitment
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 12:10 AM by NJCher
But when you think of how many are suffering and what is at stake, it's the least we can do.

The injured Iraqi child picture is a brilliant counter-move.

I admire and respect these people from the bottom of my heart.

Who in NJ wants to do this every Sunday? I'll help organize it and be there every week. The only trouble is we'd be preaching to the choir here. So maybe there are better places to put our time and effort.

Cher

23. Cindy's Germany vigil on March 11-12 will have a counter demo
Edited on Mon Feb-27-06 12:51 AM by lebkuchen
supposedly, led by a German, supposedly, who wants to "bring down the tone" of discussion, by counterprotesting. ??

A German Lutheran minister in Landstuhl is Cindy's sponsor.

37. I am so glad you saw these
I knew you were busy and not on line as much these days. So I emailed you.

I just drove by 63 and Ward Parkway. They protest there every Tues from 5 to 6. I work late Tuesdays so I can't join them. Muse, you should have seen the crowd there today. It was AWESOME!! I almost cried I was so excited to see all those people.
:woohoo:

I also posted these pictures on the Camp Casey email list. I have had FOUR requests in TWO days to repost the pics on other sites. They love our signs. Goes to show ya - as the song says 'everything's up to date in Kansas City'.

 :hi:
