Do you realize how many different opinions there are about what
a Port Operator does? When I first heard about this the other day, I asked everyone on DU, just what does a port operator do? I really didn't know, and I suspect a lot of other people don't either!

I've heard everything from they schedule all the docking, inspect all the cargo, hire and fire all the dock workers...well just about everything...all the way to the Coast Guard does the inspections, our workers jobs will be safe, and Dubai World won't be doing anything!

What in the hell is wrong with the media that they can't even define a damn job????

1. because the repubes deliberately draped the issue in bigotry
THAT's the "Look over there" beauty of it all.. They get their way, and everyone gets all tied up in knots over the bigotry of it all..

sound and fury..signifying nothing

2. Remember how they accidentally convinced America that Iraq was tied
to nine one one? Funny that.

3. But there's so FEW people who actually explaine the issue!
I've heard from people with the Coast Guard that they check PAPER WORK, and check the ships to make sure they have fire extinguishers and such. They DO NOT check the cargo! The longshoreman would be working for Dubai World!

Maybe Dubai World would run the ports just fine, I have no idea! But WHY take a risk NOW?

We're dealing with Vietnam now, but we wouldn't have done it 30 years ago!

Ohhhh, I'm so damn disgusted.

7. There is a cartoon posted elsewhere that shows the UAE as a Trojan
Horse entering U.S. harbors. This illustrates the reality perfectly IMHO. Who knows who is noble and
port dedicated vs who has another agenda? I agree with you. Why take a risk now? Very disgusting.

When Americans No Longer Own America
By Thom Hartmann
02/27/06 "ICH" -- -- The Dubai Ports World deal is waking Americans up to a painful reality: So-called "conservatives" and "flat world" globalists have bankrupted our nation for their own bag of silver, and in the process are selling off America.

Ultimately, it's not about security -- it's about money. In the multinational corporatocracy's "flat world," money trumps the national good, community concerns, labor interests, and the environment. NAFTA, CAFTA, and WTO tribunals can - and regularly do - strike down local and national laws. Thomas Paine's "Rights of Man" are replaced by Antonin Scalia's "Rights of Corporate Persons."

8. That's great info, but the average American doesn't know that!
Maybe I'll send a copy of that post to Dobbs. He seems to be to only one on TC who's willing to at least try to clarify this mess!

I pay a lot of attention to everything that's going on, and I know if I hae questions, or the explaination is muddy, the people who don't pay attention...which is most people I'm afraid, then there's a BIG PROBLEM!
