34% approval: Time to call for resignation?

OK, folks, is it time to start pounding the "Bush resign now" drum?

That should, I think, be the mantra of the left -- the focus of demonstrations, candlelight vigils, letters to the editor, calls to talk radio, Op-ed pieces, the whole none yards. I mean, hey, why not?

Do you really think these guys give a damn about opinion polls? They're there and that's it. Unless we can win back Congress, Chimp is there until January 2009.

The louder we get - the harder he resists?? Can we say Marie Antoinette?

So what if he doesn't heed the call? By starting now, we can build support before November for the idea of throwing his ass out. If we get people behind the idea that Bush should go, he'll become more and more isolated and the GOP will be in a tough spot -- having to defend an embattled, deeply discredited president.

And who knows... it also just might work. "People power" should not be underestimated.

Seriously, even though we know the prick-in-chief won't resign, I still think it's politically useful to beat the drums for it anyway.

And besides, do we really want Dickhead Cheney in the #1 position? Or if Dickhead also resigns, perhaps Dennis Hastert?

We're gonna be stuck with him until the next election... and by then we Democrats had better have a hell of a good candiate, and a hell of a good plan.

Ya know what? I think it'd be worth it. Cheney would take "power" as the weakest president in U.S. history. He'd be a seat-warmer in the Oval Office. The idea of Cheney taking over should not stop us.

Look, the right does this kind of thing all the time. Certain folks call for one thing, others take a more "reasonable" position while also showing sympathy for "those who would go farther." It's good cop/bad cop. I think having people on the streets beating the drum for Bush'sresignation strengthens the hand of those in Congress who want impeachment.

"Clearly," they can say, "the nation's confidence in our chief executive has been shaken. It is up to Congress to act in a way that will heal America and restore faith in our republic."

Trust me... if we put 30,000 people in the Washington Mall calling for Bush to resign -- with satellite demonstrations in 10 other cities, letters to the editor, op-eds, etc., some folks who are on the fence about impeachment (I'm talkin' to YOU Barrack Obama!) would hop down onto our side.

Focus on 2006 and the actual elections happening. If this would help Dems win this November then it would be worth doing, but it would just be a distraction.

At least it woudlnt' be predicated on getting Congress to do something.

I think a "Bush Step Down" movement is good just for PR alone.
