Report: Iraq violence toll jumps to 1,300

BAGHDAD, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The toll from sectarian and other violence in Iraq since the bombing of a sacred Shiite shrine has jumped to more than 1,300, far more than earlier estimates.

The deaths make the past week the deadliest of the Iraqi war outside of major U.S. offensives, reports The Washington Post. The toll is more than three times the number previously reported by the U.S. military and the media, says the Post.

The sharp rise in the number of deaths is because of hundreds of unclaimed bodies at morgues. They show victims who had been shot, knifed, garroted or apparently suffocated by the plastic bags still over their heads, says the report.

4. Hey, it didn't happen in an American skyscraper, ergo it is meaningless
...at least that is the BushCo theme.

The total military dead is close to, if not already is, exceeding the total number of dead after nine eleven....so, what to do? Throw another log of three thousand souls on the fire of hell???? Apparently this first log failed to burn up the insurgency into cinders....

When is enough, enough?

6. They're killing potential opponents before the major conflict breaks out.
If you have a certain frame of mind, it's sensible.

What did Riverbend say? That her neighborhood has no men under 50 anymore?

8. I heard that figure on CBS last night
I thought I'd misheard it. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice/Perle/Wolfowitz et al. should be tried for crimes against humanity.

Saddam is on trial for killing (I think) about 150 people.
