The reason we went into iraq the first place is to remove Saddam from power, I mean he has been beating,killing, raping his own people since the Clinton administration.
The final straw for him was the attempted genocide of the Sunni population, and the WMDs we're looking for have been spent generating the guilt for him in the charge of genocide of that population.
Now we're remaining there to give them a security force of thier own only to find it is erupting into a all out civil war right under our noses, we are turtling for ratings and need to get to work and train iraqis and get our troops the hell out of there after the job is done.

You come to the correct conclusion - we need to get out - but I think you need to educate yourself on our history with the man and the country, why we are really there, and where the responsibility for all this lies.

PS: Hussein is a Sunni. Why was he practicing genocide on his own people? Before you opine, learn the demographics.

BTW, Saddam was not accused of genocide of the Sunni population. He's accused of repressing the Shiites, not the Sunnis, and he's currently only charged with a single incident in which his military put down a rebellion after an assassination attempt. He is not charged with any of the other 'crimes' for which he was paid by us to commit.

We paid Saddam to oppress the Shiites to act as a 'bulwark' against radicial Islam from Iran for many, many years. Perhaps you're not old enough to remember, but if he's guilty of these things, then so are we, since we paid him to do it (until the invasion of Kuwait, that is).

We are never going to be able to prop up an acceptable puppet government there, so there's no point in remaining. The only thing we are doing right now is deepening resentments all over the region (and the world, for that matter)
