Complete Update from Rawstory on Patriot Act -Sensenbrenner backs OUT!!!
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 11:54 AM by stop the bleeding

House aides say that Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has backed out of agreeing to the compromise measure. A vote on the Sununu provision -- named for Sen. John Sununu (R-NH) who negotiated the compromise, has been yanked from a floor vote in the House today.

Senate offices working on the bill could not immediately be reached for comment.

~snip~

Aides say that the moderate Republicans who had pushed for the compromise -- including Sununu, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AL) -- may be put in the uncomfortable position of either opposing the bill flat out or accepting the conference report with the understanding that the full Patriot Act may never reach compromise in the House.

4. I've seen no indication...
... that the "compromise" was meaningful anyway. Is it really of any substance?

5. one part would have allowed you to tell your lawyer that FISA
sent you a letter... doesn't really matter when the rest of the bill is crap, imho.

6. How do they get by with saying they need this to fight the WOT?
Have any terrorists been arrested and prosecuted under the PATRIOT Act? Not to my knowledge. They did bust Tommy Chong and some hookers though I heard.

Is this law some sort of force field that protects us from terrorist attack maybe? Otherwise, I think all the talk about its' utter necessity to our way of life is just talk.
