Of the 130,000 troops serving in Iraq,
“85% said the U.S. mission is mainly to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks.”

2. Actually, that number is from a poll of 944 soldiers
But the number still amazed me. How will they feel when they realize it's a bunch of lies?

3. They are in a closed environment
with restricted access to factual data. They live, breathe and die hating Saddam Hussein. I wonder what happened to that other 15%.

7. But we didn't go into Iraq right after 9-11
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 02:40 PM by CottonBear
and all of us DUers knew Hussein had nothing to do with 9-11. Why wouldn't the soldiers not have figured this out since most of themn were still in the USA where they had access to the internet and non-RW news sources? I'm baffled? Maybe, soldiers are just ike most regular Americans and many of them believe what the MSM tell them.

I have a young Army Sgt. friend (he got back from Tikrit, Iraq last year). He told me that the "MSM isn't telling the truth about Iraq." (i.e. all of the 'good things' the US is doing. :( I didn't try and argue with him just because I was so glad he made it back alive.

8. I think that most people just believe the sound bites they
hear and don't pay attention at all. I asked several of my co-workers what they thought of the port deal and NOT ONE of them know what I was talking about. Americans just don't pay attention.

9. Hussein was the real bad guy
according to their bosses and the propoganda they continue to receive. Its probably a real easy sell to young testosterone laden 20 somethings. Someone has to be the bad guy.

Yeah, I really miss all that good news flowing out of Iraq.

Went to Slidell this morning; drove down Gause Blvd. It was great to see Mardi Gras parade debris all over the place. Beads all over the median. I may meander down to the quarter Friday. As I told you I'm extremely patient, but I'm also extremely anxious to get on down there.

11. Thanks for your insight from a military perspective.
I saw an AP photo of the Tropical Isle on Borboun Street yesterday! A guy with a pushbroom was out front sweeping up piles of Mardi Gras debris. The AP had some wild photos of trees covered in festoons of beads! We'll wait for a report from the Quarter!

12. The Tropical Isle??
Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about the place. Local news did a lot of stuff from the quarter yesterday and two folks had walking sticks and dark glasses pretending to be blind and walking down the street poking things with their sticks. They had signs saying they were Levee Inspectors.

When I was on active duty, I could get a young Sailor right out of bootcamp to do anything I wanted him to do and believe anything I told him, because I was the Chief, therefore I was God. There is some value to that relationship when in combat. But, after a few years the young kids grow up and I'm just someone in the way; a pace car at a race if you will keeping an eye out for wrecks and oil spills. They are red blooded american soldiers in Iraq. They kicked Saddam's ass. UU-rah!! He's the bad guy, it doesn't matter why.

If you get a chance to go to Slidell swing by the Garden Spot on Robert Blvd. It is an incredible nursery. I went there this AM and the plants just about knocked me over. And they have a garden type gift shop. Just incredible. I got a new strawberry pot for herbs. Our scrawny little Japanese Magnolia which Katrina put two trees on is showing off all her pretty blooms right now. I'm taking the wife to Slidell on Saturday to start our "annuals" shopping. The Olive Garden is back open. Every day it gets a little better.
