Will we have to build the "abortion underground train"
similar to the slavery one, to help women in S. Dakota and Mississippi (can Alabama and Florida be far behind) travel to a free state to get the government off their back.. er.. from between their legs?

1. Maybe at the same time we could get women to go to the polls to vote
for liberal candidates who respect the individual's propertyrights over his or her own body. Just a thought.

2. I'm sure this will be the case
NARAL and Planned Parenthood probably will resort to raising funding for women who need, not only abortions, but the means to travel and house themselves while they go from Mississippi to Illinois (the next closest blue state, I'd imagine).

3. Things won't be as bleak this time around.
There was never a "shortage" of abortions before when it was illegal.. Things won't change all that much..

Girls & women will still get their "appendectomies, D&Cs, and have their "female troubles" tended to.. It will be in a less formal setting than they are familiar with now. and the way costs are going, it might even be cheaper and safer than before.

Doctors who are tired of being harrassed by locos, will just moonlight..The methods available are safer too these days.

Women will have to be proactive and do some "just in case" research, but society's opinions have changed while Roe v Wade has been law.. Aside from the loud fundamentalist loonies who are driving the bus, most of america still supports choice.. There will be help for women & girls, and the internet is here now too..

4. I hope that you are right
The sad reality is that the most uninformed, uneducated, poor women will be the one who will not know who to find alternatives.

The ones that you list will certainly be used by Republicans, which is why they happily vote for these laws. After all, we do need canon fodder for the next "war for democracy." We will need more gardeners and farm workers and maid to do menial jobs once the wall along the Mexican border is erected.

:sarcasm:

6. As I've posted in another thread - start stocking up on BCP
It's still legal and easier to move in and out of the state. If someone (or you) you love is in need of the morning after pill, then at least we can give them high does of BCP. I would suggest any woman and especially mothers with daughters stock up on a few months of BCP to prepare themselves just incase especially since BCP bans will be happening soon after abortion is tackled
