What is Keith Olbermann smoking ?
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 03:58 PM by KurtNYC
Answer: Bill O'Reilly's ratings!

The ratings for February cable news are out and it looks like the propaganda catapult is broken:

Fox (News)'s Prime Time erosion was even greater at -21%. In fact, in every hour in the daypart, from 3:00pm till midnight, Fox numbers were lower. This is a distinction that only Fox, of the five nets surveyed, was able to achieve.

The largest decline was suffered by Greta Van Susteran's On The Record (-22%), followed closely by O'Reilly (-21%). Hannity & What's His Name took the Bronze (-17%). Of the MSNBC programs opposite those losers, Olbermann's Countdown was the biggest gainer (55%), which I'm sure doesn't bother O'Reilly at all.

To paraphrase the old saying: You can lead the sheep to Kool-Aid but 21% of them have stopped drinking.

edit: spelling

8. You have to have market share to lose it.
I am always suspect of reports that show gains and losses in percentages. I like the raw numbers.
While it is nice to see KO increasing and Orielly dumping the actual audience numbers are still Orielly...458 KO....163.
Still a lot of work to do there.

Fox is still pulling 1.5 to 2 million viewers compared to CNN's highest rated program, Larry King at 900k down from 1million. Olbermann is well on his way though pulling 400k viewers but I know many of you don't want to hear but Nancy grace is on fire jumping from 237k to 583K viewers, 145%. Second only to mad money's 193% increase.

12. As Mr. Olbermann noted last week...
The average age of the O'Reilly viewer is approximately 68. Pretty ancient demo.

Can't live forever, literally.

...are on ventilators or comatose or something, and their Neilsen boxes were just left on Faux News.

Of course, this does raise the issue of "cause and effect" :)

13. Anybody know when they rate FOX if it includes ALL FOX
chanels? I know we have FOX news, we have FOX on the Std. chanels where they air shows like King of the Hill, COPS, America's Most Wanted, and American Idol, FOX Sports, and the FOX Movie Chanel.

Every time I see these ratings listed, and FOX usually shows pretty high, I wonder if they're really comparing like networks.

34. Nielsen ratings for Fox News Channel are just those of Fox News Channel.
Edited on Wed Mar-01-06 10:25 PM by Garbo 2004
FNC has fairly significant ratings among the cable news channels, but even their highest rated show gets soundly beaten by SpongeBob, as I recall last time I looked. And the broadcast networks nightly news programs still overwhelmingly rule in terms of ratings. FNC isn't quite the giant it claims to be.

What O'Reilly is selling, lesser numbers of people are buying.

And I'd guess that of his remaining viewers many are doing so just out of habit.

The posing has caught up with the right.

They spoke for years about the evils of Democrats and what they would do when they took over. People bought it.

Now after 6 yrs of total repub majorities we see the fruit of their efforts. I cant think of one issue they could call victorious. People are poorer, Jobs are crap if you can find one, social programs are being starved out which means people dont get help (while corporations roll in welfare) We have a quagmire in Iraq which has all but driven us into bankruptcy, thousands of men and women coming home in bodybags, selling our country and its people to foreign interests, military suffering from overworking and understaffing, their medicare plan sucks .....Not one thing they can point to. And that means they have lost their cred, nobody buys the garbage anymore. Fool me once..

25. O' Reilly is going apeshit
The ratings for the first two months of 2006 are in, and despite the Olympics on NBC, "The Factor" continues to wipe out the competition. We thank you very much.

In total viewers, we beat our closest competition, CNN, by more than 260 percent. Over at MSNBC things are desperate. We beat MSNBC by an astounding 500 percent and CNBC by more than double that.

Key demos, we beat the NBC people by 206 percent and 511 percent, respectively.

Apparently, NBC's advertising how well it's doing in the world of cable news. So you can make a call about their honesty, as they are dead last in the 8 p.m. time slot.

Trying to stir up controversy in order to get his ratings out of the toilet.

Didn't work shithead. See if Dennis Miller can save you a place in line at the unemployment office.
