If his approval ratings were at 34% before this tape aired, they're going to plunge again afterward. I think the Katrina factor is a major reason his numbers have tanked, and here's yet ANOTHER reminder of how just how badly he handled that emergency.

What's damning is when Max Mayfield and Brownie BOTH warn him that this is going to be bad ... and then we know what Jackass-in-Chief said about "no one imagining the levees not holding." Selective use of videotape and shows Tweety's absolute bias. GRRRRRRRRRR.

I wish I had the exact date...

look carefully...Bush is receiving a briefing BEFORE THE STORM from Max Mayfield...Director of the National Hurricane Center.

on edit...the location of the storm on the tv map seems to indicate Sunday afternoon or sunday night.



Two things:

First, If my memory is correct, the pic was released by the White House to show how "on top of things" Dubya was.

Second, I distinctly remember DUers complaining about:

a. the telephone on the desk didn't appear to have any wires running to it, and'
b. that we spent so much money (apparently) building the conference room and links AT THE CRAWFORD PIG FARM! This picture was supposedly taken on the pig farm the night before the hurricane hit.

It was released by the WH. There was another one too, which I posted in the other thread, where he is delivering a prepared statement in a crawford television studio. It was bizarre - remember? They released it first as just an audio, and then they released video later? I mean we were all here that day on pins and needles and watching the people line up to get into the Super Dome and reading that horrific weather prediction about massive destruction etc.

I didn't have any clue as to who posted it originally, I just saved it because I sensed it would be important....besides, I'm a big fan of Max Mayfield's. He's a friend of a friend and I have a lot of respect for him

WASHINGTON - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, risk lives in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage of the briefings.

Bush didn't ask a single question during the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck on Aug. 29 but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

Six days of footage and transcripts obtained by The Associated Press show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.

Linked by secure video, Bush's bravado on Aug. 29 starkly contrasts with the dire warnings his disaster chief and a cacophony of federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm.

A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and then-
