The final vote on the Patriot Act extension is scheduled for 3:00 in the Senate. Anyone got a good sense of how its going to go?

:hi:

on edit..here's the story.

`Handful of Votes'

``When it passes, it will pass with no more than a handful of votes in opposition,'' Kyl said. ``How can it be that two or three or four senators can hold up for weeks the reauthorization of this important law?''

Other provisions of the legislation would enhance security by making it a crime to transport nuclear or biological weapons on a vessel in U.S. waters and increase the penalties for stowaways if they intend to commit violent attacks.

Senator Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania Republican who heads the Senate Judiciary Committee, said he would introduce as separate legislation some of the provisions of the Senate version of the Patriot Act extension that were deleted by House-Senate negotiators.

Specter said that, when FBI Director Robert Mueller testifies before the panel later this month, he will be ``asked for more justification of the more restrictive provisions'' of the law. ``There will be continuing oversight,'' Specter said.

4. Judging from the cloture vote the other day
And from what I've heard in the press, I would say that it is a done deal. Fully expect the oh so liberal:eyes: Ms. Clinton to vote in favor of this travesty, along with a lot, if not most of the rest of the Democratic Senators joining her in selling the rest of us down the river. After all, she and her colleagues have enough power and money that they won't be affected by these restrictions on our freedom. So, in accordance with the wishes of their corporate masters, they will deprive us of our freedom:grr:
