Anybody watching the LIHEAP debate in the Senate?
Chris Dodd just exploded! If Snowe, Collins, and Chafee lose their LIHEAP, maybe they will think twice about being Republicans.

4. Low income heating assistance...
...it helps poor people pay for their heating bills so they can afford to buy food. It also helps with air conditioning in warmer states but it's mostly for heating. Snowe's bill would add $1 billion to LIHEAP but many conservative Repubs are moving a budget point of order, which would require 60 votes to waive.

6. It's a program to help poor people pay their winter heating bills.

The repukes want to get rid of it.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps pay the winter heating bills or summer cooling bills of low-income and elderly people. During extreme weather conditions, people living in poverty and low-income elderly should not have to choose between buying fuel to heat or cool their homes and buying food for themselves and their families. Since two-thirds of the families receiving LIHEAP assistance have incomes of less than $8,000 a year, the program clearly helps the people who need help the most.

This Web resource is sponsored by the Campaign for Home Energy Assistance. Included here is general information about the LIHEAP program and who it serves, media information, news, and ideas for what you can do to help save LIHEAP.

and southern Repubs. Southern R's won't OK LIHEAP so northern R Senators are holding up aid for the south. It is going back and forth.

Just friggin lovely for the actual citizens in the north and the south.

edit to add the article

Senate's North-South Rift Blocks Aid Bills

By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer
Fri Feb 24, 9:50 PM ET

WASHINGTON - Homeowners flooded out by Katrina or shivering from high heating costs are caught in the crossfire of a North versus South battle among Republican senators.

Northern senators want $1 billion more for home heating subsidies to low-income families; southern senators are warning of dire consequences if Congress doesn't give the National Flood Insurance Program more borrowing authority.

Both are blocking the others' bills for leverage, and it likely will take action by the GOP leadership, when the Senate reconvenes next week, to break the deadlock.

Sen. Olympia Snowe (news, bio, voting record), R-Maine, has not publicly said she is responsible for the hold on the flood insurance bill, although her office says she is exerting what pressure she can to get a vote on her heating aid bill.

Sens. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., and Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., admit they've put a legislative hold on adding $1 billion to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Coburn is demanding that other programs be cut to cover the $1 billion.

7. Oh, it was Dodd?...I heard some one really upset
Tv is on in another room...

I hope it passes. For the warm states it is a welcome financial assistance, for the colder states it is about life and death, I was thinking "Ensign shut up".
