GOP to hold 'mastering blogs' session with Stephen Colbert
In the 1990s, talk radio was crucial to disseminating the ideas of the Republican revolutionaries. Today, House GOP Conference Vice Chairman Jack Kingston (Ga.) believes that the blogosphere is poised to become the next big thing in the GOP communication machine’s armada, ROLL CALL reports Thursday, RAW STORY has learned. Excerpts from the pay-restricted story:“If you look at what blogs have impacted, from the Swift Boat situation to the Dan Rather retirement, they are very effective,” Kingston said. In the past three years, 100,000 Web logs have grown into 29 million, according to Kingston. The seminar — covering everything from “What is a blog?” to strategies for pitching stories and ideas to bloggers — will feature discussions with bloggers from such conservative sites as TownHall.com and Human Events Online.

Comedian Stephen Colbert, who is planning to be on the Hill Friday taping interviews for “The Colbert Report’s” “Better Know a District” segment, is slated to drop by the event to pitch his Comedy Central show, which each week spotlights a different House Member and district. (Kingston, who sat for the first installment of Colbert’s series, invited the TV host.)

is Cobert a right winger, I don't get him, at times I think his show is a parody of the right, but then he performs in the WH, the Pentagon was interested in him..

1. Maybe they don't get it. He told The Onion he was a lefty.
and his cronies Sedaris and Dinello sure are lefty.

Decades ago there was a French comedianne that would do jokes about race (targeting Algerians, etc.) but in the character of this right-wing asshole. It was a parody of the right. The left saw it and thought it was brilliant...the right saw it and thought it was, well, brilliant. Maybe they appreciate the more subtle jabs he sends there way on his show too.

8. C'mon. Colbert. It's a FRENCH name!
He's a descendent of cheese-eating surrender monkeys impersonating a smug, loofah-wielding, closet-falael-talking conservative pundit.

3. Definitely not a right winger!
He's extremely sarcastic and sometimes I don't get him either. Just remember, he used to be on The Daily Show, and it doesn't get much more liberal than that.

4. I think Colbert's purpose
Is to get congresscritters to sign up for the district segments on his show. But I have no doubt that sometime within the next week he will be the subject of a Five Minute Hate here for some idiotic reason or other.

5. All of the Daily Show alums are liberals.
Ganging up on Jon Stewart with the "Jewbag elitist liberal" routine is shtick.

7. Hahahahah! Hahahahaha! Yay.
Oh I hope a tape of that interaction makes it out.

No, I'm pretty sure Colbert isn't a rabid right winger. If I was as good at making fun of politics as he is, I'd perform at the White House too.

again:

12. Colbert is doing interviews with several of them -
who would miss the opportunity to get someone that darn funny to spend a few hours with them as a trade-off.

Colbert is masterful at channeling right-wing blowhards and rarely falls out of character.

He is brilliant. That maybe the right doesn't get it is really funny.

FWIW - The Daily Show has had Colin Powell, and every other type of Republican on when they are hawking their books. I don't think Colbert will be any different. Subtle jabs are sometimes the most effective ones - especially when one doesn't realize one is being poked fun of.

13. It's a testament to GOP humorlessness
that they don't even understand he's making fun of them.
