Cunningham sentenced to ten years

Former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham faces up to 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced Friday for taking $2.4 million in bribes in return for influencing the awarding of Pentagon contracts.

Cunningham, who was an eight-term Republican representative from the 50th Congressional District, pleaded guilty last Nov. 28 to conspiracy to commit bribery and evading more than $1 million in taxes.

Under a plea agreement, U.S. District Judge Larry Burns can sentence the 64-year-old Cunningham to no more than 10 years, the length of time recommended by prosecutors. It would be the longest prison sentence ever imposed on a member of Congress in a public corruption case.

In court filings, attorneys for Cunningham urged the judge to give Cunningham credit for having been a Vietnam War fighter pilot and war hero and for years of service to the United States.

7. "UP to 10 years" will probably mean 18-24 months.
At his age, the full ten years would have suited me just fine.
But there's little chance he's gonna serve nearly that much time.

9. I can't see where it says that he's actually been
sentenced to 10 years. It only says that he faces UP TO TEN YEARS and under the plea agreement, he CAN BE SENTENCED UP TO 10 YEARS. We don't yet know that he will be given the full ten years.
