ARCATA CITY COUNCIL “2006 NEW YEARS RESOLUTION” DEMANDS IMPEACHMENT OR RESIGNATION OF BUSH AND CHENEY

The Arcata City Council last night adopted a resolution calling for the impeachment or resignation of George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney for violations of International and Constitutional law. The resolution charges Bush and Cheney with the following impeachable offenses:

(1) The crime of misleading the American people and Congress into waging an unnecessary war in Iraq, in violation of the US Constitution and International Law;

(2) The criminal failure of the President to respond adequately to the Hurricane Katrina disaster;

(3) The crime of ordering the secret surveillance of American citizens by the NSA, without any court warrant; and

(4) The crime of torturing human beings, in violation of the Geneva Conventions and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

11. That list is of papers calling for Clinton's impeachment, not
bush's, on bush they are 'curiously' silent which was the point of Atman's OP. It was quite enlightening to see the hypocrisy on their part, imo.

20. Not to worry, I, too, made the same mistake at first
and was thrilled. It wasn't until I had the time to read the thread more carefully that I realized what it really meant. Also, it is good that you posted the link because more will see the hypocrisy of the newspapers listed and that can only be beneficial, imo.

28. It's up in the heart of the Redwood Forest in Humboldt County, California
a few miles from Eureka..

Humboldt University is located there... and it's a wonderfully PROGRESSIVE and Green community. Arcata City Council was the first in the country to release a Anti-War in Iraq Resolution, other city councils followed.

Elected officials are Green Party.

22. well, technically, you can be a coalition of one
:-)

...but you should be able to recruit at least a couple more from your area. If you can't, you're probably going to have trouble getting any traction.

A large number of upset voters is just about the only thing that will motivate a pol to action.

19. Arcata is home of the best Police Blotter ever
http://www.arcataeye.com/122005police.shtml

A sample:

# Friday, November 18 2:54 a.m. Doubtless many a frightful scenario has included a woman yelling, "No! No!" followed by a loud thump. But in this case, it was just another domesto-disturbo at the apartments on Alliance Road. The man of the house, all cocktail-bejibbered, challenged responding officers to fight him, but the offer was declined.
# 3:36 a.m. Less than an hour had passed when Mr. Bejibbers was observed chasing his betrothed through the complex toward Alliance Road. Police found the two there, just "out for a walk." They were told to go home, and calls to Mr. B's parole agent weren't returned.
# Saturday, November 19 3:54 a.m. A gentleman attired in a hooded sweatshirt wandered the Plaza, asking random passersby if they might know where he could purchase cocaine. One man told him he couldn't help him with his endeavor, so the coke-seeker went to Plan B from Outer Space for sprightly wee-hour entertainment, which involved offering to fight the passerby. But he'd gone there for an argument, not hand-to-hand combat, and declined.
# 5:04 a.m. Car campers were ticketed at the Intermodal Transient Facility.
# 12:41 p.m. A resident complained of campers behind the 200 block of H Street every night.
# 12:59 p.m. Two men were seen dumping a bucket full of dead rats into the sewer at Fifth and F streets.
# 2:07 p.m. A man was sorry he'd kicked a dent into someone's truck, apologized.
# Sunday, November 20 1:51 a.m. An officer imparted to a motorist the rare knowledge that Bayside Road is NOT A FRICKIN' FREEWAY. In so many words.
# 2:06 a.m. What better way to spend an early Monday morning than scraping a knife on the concrete on the Plaza? Maybe getting arrested on a public drunkenness charge and going to jail.
# 11:34 a.m. A man reported to police that he'd been assaulted at work in October, naming a nonexistent landscaping business. What happened, the man said, was that he'd hurt himself at work, then gone to the doctor and referred the bill to his employer. But, he said, the doctor refused to treat him without a signed paper from the boss. Back to the imaginary business, where the boss not only refused to sign any paper, but for good measure choked him, threatened to "kill him with a gun" if he ever returned to the business. Now, said the man, he was being followed and photographed by an acquaintance of the boss. He was advised about restraining orders.
# 7:36 p.m. Another, more reality-rooted, less lethal-sounding but still satisfyingly goofy case of mano-a-mano hasslement began with a funny joke about whether a guy's car was a Volkswagen Golf or a Jetta. From those mirthful beginnings, non-hilarity ensued, reported the VW owner, when the other guy - whose silver pickup truck ensures his manly-man credentials - undertook a six-month campaign of disparagement against the VW owner and his auto. This included calling him a "faggot," "loser" and "crazy," when he actually isn't any of those things. Police contacted the truck owner, who acknowledged bothering the other guy, making fun of his car and generally harassing him, and admitted that this was a dumb thing to do. But he denied calling him those awful things, or actually hurting the VW.

25. All you need to do to get this in your town is this (READ)
1) contact your local Democratic Town Committee
2) attend their next meeting (you should be a member already anyway, slacker! :) )
3) bring this up to the Dems, and the Dem reps on your Town Board of Selectman/Town Committee.
4) have the Dem reps bring it up as town business to the First Selectman/Mayor for a vote.

29. It's A Green Party City Council, Not a Democratic Party City Council
Democrats in most other cities (with a few exceptions like Berkeley)seem to toe the party line, a sort of deafening silence.

27. Arcata Also First (only, so far) to Adopt Voter Confidence Resolution
http://guvwurld.blogspot.com/2005/04/voter-confidence-resolution.html

Voter Confidence Resolution
Adopted by Arcata, CA 7/20/05

Excerpts:

Whereas recent U.S. federal elections have been conducted under conditions that have not produced unanimous agreement about the outcome; and

Whereas future U.S. federal elections cannot possibly produce unanimous agreement as long as any condition permits an inconclusive count or re-count of votes; and

...

Whereas the Declaration of Independence refers to the Consent of the Governed as the self-evident truth from which Government derives "just Power";

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

Because inconclusive results, by definition, mean that the true outcome of an election cannot be known, there is no basis for confidence in the results reported from U.S. federal elections; and

...

Be it further resolved:

When elections are conducted under conditions that prevent conclusive outcomes, the Consent of the Governed is not being sought. Absent this self-evident source of legitimacy, such Consent is not to be assumed or taken for granted.

Bring THIS resolution to your City Council. How many more like this have to pass before the prevailing attitude is that the Consent of the Governed has been withdrawn?

Read the Voter Confidence Resolution
