Some laws come directly from God. There is a thunderbolt, the smoke clears, and there they are, the Commandments on a stone tablet.

Most laws, however, do not have their origin in God but in man, which is the case with the law that will soon ban bestiality in the State of Washington. The man who inspired the creation of this earthly commandment is Kenneth Pinyan, a Boeing engineer, who, according to a King County Examiner's report, died on July 2, 2005, due "to acute peritonitis perforation of the sigmoid colon during anal intercourse with a horse."

If Pinyan hadn't died in that sensational manner, it is safe to say that fucking animals would continue to be one of the many pleasures that a citizen of this state is free to enjoy—just as long as he or she doesn't harm the animal in the process. For it was only after Pinyan died, when law enforcement looked for a way to punish his associates, that the legality of bestiality in Washington State became an issue and a punch line. Absent Pinyan's staggering sacrifice, the fact that there was no law prohibiting the coupling of man and beast would have never surfaced.

Sorry, I have helped breed mares and there is no way in hell being that close to an aroused stallion is even sane, let alone what he was doing with it. Just standing next to them and holding their lead rope is asking for trouble.

The first article I read that explained the exact nature of the crime. Very disturbing that he bought property across the bridge intending to move here. Too close to home for me. Why do perverts always want to move here??

Obviously Pinyan was catching, but how do you make the horse pitch unless he really wants to? I can see how it's possible with the horse bottoming, but not the other way around.

Apparently there was an accomplice who recorded the deed. Even though the cops thought they had the only copy, there is a copy still floating around the internet.

I mean, it's hard enough just to get two animals of the same species to copulate (having just gone through this with my dogs, with much aggravation) - but how on earth do you get a horse or any other non-human animal to be amorous toward a human? No, I'm not asking for a "how to" ... I'm just baffled by it.

Humans have a position of absolute power over animals in their care, even more so than adults have over children, and that in itself makes it unethical, regardless of absence of pain or injury to the animal.

I knew of a female dog (definitely female, had two litters) who had a penchant for humping a leg.

it was the horse that was raped. It was nonconsensual and the horse fought back!

Though I think it's pretty clear that animals are not consenting equals, they usually do enjoy sex. That doesn't make it right, though--even if there is no physical force, the human's position of absolute power over the animal renders the act unethical.
