O'Reilly: "See, I'm not some dopey movie star...who is intimidated"

Bill O'Reilly gains publicity from verbal joust with David Letterman

<snip>

Reaction to the CBS talk show host's Tuesday night encounter with O'Reilly on "Late Show" spilled across morning TV, cyberspace and radio Wednesday, but much of it -- no surprise -- came from O'Reilly, who went on the offensive Wednesday night on "The O'Reilly Factor" and during his noon radio show.

On Wednesday night's "Factor," he declared that "the culture war plays out on the David Letterman program!" then added that "right now there are two main issues dominating the culture war in America: the role of God in the public arena and the war on terror."

...

Earlier in the day on radio, O'Reilly blasted Letterman as a card-carrying member of the "secular progressive movement" -- telling his listeners, "I just went (on to 'Late Show') for a few laughs in the back of my mind, I said, 'well, you know, Letterman might want to go ... here."

..

On the radio, O'Reilly, said, "See, I'm not some dopey movie star that comes in there who is intimidated by him. ... And most of his guests want his approval, and he knows that. So he has a very strong advantage point."

No comment from the "Late Show" but Dave should take Bill off his Christmas card list.

5. Trash-talkin' Dave is like poking a hornet's nest with a short stick...
...if O'Falafel Boy wants to simply HAND Letterman months worth of material, start talking crap. Rant and rave and stomp yer little feet about how you don't want his approval. Then watch night after night as Letterman asks "who's your daddy?"...

Of course, I think that's what O'Reilly WANTS. Anything that keeps him in the public eye is good, in his view...and he knows how large Letterman's audience is.

20. Anyone see Letterman's reaction to the Bush Administration
one time when (McLellan or Fliesher) said that Letterman had retracted and apologized for some "off-color comments" about them? The next night, he looked straight into the camera and pointed towards the camera, saying, "That, Sir, is a LIE!"

WOW. And that was in a far more intimidating atmosphere when any criticism of BushCo was off-limits. I wish I could remember all of the details, but I was blown away when he did it. I'm a fan forever now.

Bottom line: Dave says, "Bring it on!"

8. Linking "culture wars" to war on terror
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 10:49 AM by Zambero
With an assist from the likes of O'Reilly, the wingnut element eats this stuff up. It only adds more validation to the belief that their very survival is at stake. Given their real priorities, however, these sheep-lemming hybrids skip right past the important issues and choose to dwell on which choice of words should be the universal greeting for the month of December.

15. Yeah Right!
He went on the show thinking he might get eviscerated, and went along with it? He went on there to promote himself and got his hat handed to him. This is such obvious rationalizaton, it ought to be in a textbook as an example.

17. Hahahaha. Oooh. Ohhh. Ouch. My sides! Bill, you make me want to
become a psychiatrist just so I can figure out what's wrong with your fucked up melon. I bet I'd win some kind of award for getting to the bottom of that. Then we could go on tour together to conferences and other professional events, and I could explain to my colleagues exactly what makes you tick. You'd even get to hang on to a kind of celebrity, Bill. Wouldn't you like that? Huh? Wanna stay sorta famous and get better Bill? I bet the luncheons would serve you falafel if you wanted it.

That guy is such an idiot.
