But it used to be very stressful, and lately it just seems pathetic.

I always enjoy a good argument with a reich winger on the internet, but they have become less visible in recent weeks. Poor bastards! I think the last few weeks may have been a turning point. We'll see. Keep fingers crossed!

It's beyond pathetic. And the county where I live is 100% red. Not one Democrat in public office.

North Carolina at least has some university towns, but all my national-level reps are Republicans.

Whoa! You probably are very close to me. I had a guy come to my house the other week (gas man) that said people tried to fight him when he spoke against Bush. People love GWB around here like he's God or something. I'm surprised you've encountered people who were mad at him. I'm glad I'm moving soon.

Not to say you aren't in a bad area, but NC is not as bad as say...OK! People watched our two candidates debate and didn't realize that one was a "democrat" until it flashed on the screen!

There was even speculation that NC could 'squeak' by as 'blue.' Oklahoma never stood that chance!

I am not trying to downplay your experience; however, some of us are in REALLY red states! Try being a gay, liberal Jew in Oklahoma...they still use the words "nigger" and "kike" here!

I know of the many problems in NC. My parents and two of my brothers still live there. I had hoped that my partner and I would be there soon, but it seems the "powers that be" are sending us elsewhere.

Both of my brothers in NC are str8...both will soon be doctors...one a MD, the other in Physics. Thankfully, they are also both liberals! The one becoming a medical doctor is very liberal...you'd like him; the other, he is a "ladies man," you might like him too (he can attract quite the beautiful woman). Both are committed to equal rights for all people, including women. So, if interested in chatting with them, let me know (PM me). I am trying to get them to come to the DU, but both are busy with school (I have no life).

there is a big letdown going on in red strongholds, with the exception of very wealthy areas. It's one thing for the team to let you down, it's another to feel completely screwed by them. The rabid Bush fans should be feeling a profound sense of betrayal. NOTHING has been done in their interests, quite the opposite. Their undying loyalty and support have paid no dividends. Meanwhile the grasping greedy exploiters have been exposed. Anyone who's still left bowing and scraping on the pirate ship Bushco is a
cult freak. The smarter rats will be abandoning ship. But it takes time to make the transition
from faith-based to reality-based. Right now it's slackwater. I hope their "base" rolls back like a tsunami and gives the Bush thugs a BIG smack-down. That's the only power they have left.

Very good point. There are other factors as well - not wanting to have to admit you were wrong, standing beside the opionions of love-ones, etc.

I'm in Tucson which ultimately is pretty blue (went 67% I believe for Kerry in the last election) however there are still religious wingnuts that blanket the entire suburban areas and unfortunately someday I'll have to live amongst them because I don't want to rent my whole life.

Oh well though get some more people from New York City and San Fran down here and buy up some houses and show the red bastards who REALLY contributes to their neighborhoods all of a sudden going up in property value-it ain't the phony preachers I'll tell you that much!
