Here comes FCC restrictions on cable/sat

If Senator John D. Rockefeller has his way, the Senate Commerce Committee will vote on potentially rolling cable and satellite into the FCC's indecency enforcement regime, adding violence to the commission's indecency oversight authority, and codifying new FCC digital kids rules into the bargain.

An aide said Monday Rockefeller will try to make that vote part of a mark-up of a rewrite of the 1996 Telco Act.

James Reid, a top aide to the West Virginia Democrat, who was on a panel briefing for broadcast executives brought in by the National Association of Broadcasters for an annual legislative meet and greet.

Reid said he knew that was something the broadcasters weren't pleased to hear, even suggesting that is why they had him speak last (NAB said no). But while recognizing industry efforts to self-regulate and educate, he said Rockefeller still planned to introduce his bill as part of telecommunications reform legislation, "either in its totality" or "section by section."

Cable and satellite are PAY services. If Jay Rockefeller does not want to see something he should just not PAY for it. OR use the V chip.

I'm really tired of the moralists telling me that I have to conform to their idea of 'the right way to live'.

I don't want to see MORE of the bleeped out or altered words, or chopped out segments on MORE channels. And I see commercials regularly informing me of how to set the options to block channels. People should be smart enough to do this themselves and if they don't, it's because they want to impose their own moral view on everyone.

Plus most televisions, which have V-Chip capability, have the ability to block channels based on content or rating.

America has become waaay to prudish about the content on television or in the media. If I don't want to see something, then I just won't watch it.

I don't want some higher power telling me what I can and cannot watch.. *I* should make those decisions, not the government.

It's bad when Republicans do this, but Democrats should know better.

Rockefeller doesn't deserve to be in the senate or even a citizen if he can't respect the bill of rights.
