John Gibson: it's the viewers fault for the misreporting of the miners...

Speed Before Accuracy: Blame Viewers

"Let me tell you why you went to bed thinking the miners were alive and woke up to find them dead," FNC's John Gibson said on Wednesday's Big Story.

"You want your news in raw feeds, fast as they come, uninterrupted by pesky news people actually checking things out. I know this because I do a live feed show. You want the live feeds so much you actually prefer three or four feeds on the screen at once."

He concludes: "Live is suspense. It is real. It is the definition of news. But it can fool you. So be careful."

3. who is this guy? as a newsie myself..
...I say 'F••• Y••.'
yes, you want news fast. there is something called competition.
there is also something called 'accuracy.'
it's a simple concept:
You don't report rumors; you work your ass off to get accurate informaton from good sources or your own eyes and ears before you report word one.
Broadcast news sucks.. It's like "Network" come to life.

15. nobody asked me if I prefer the new "4 feeds on screen" lightshow
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 12:14 PM by librechik
extravaganza that SUDDENLY APPEARED after 9/11 on all the nets (when it HAD NOT BEEN THERE before)

And I prefer accuracy to screaming, blinking fireworky LIES

7. there's one word missing from the equation: "unconfirmed"
live feeds have been around for a long time, John...but reporters used to acknowledge, "There are unconfirmed reports that...".

In your quest to titillate your viewers faster than other programming, you apparently decided that word was expendable.

11. When Anderson Cooper first heard they were all alive and then
dead, it was from family members or people who were in the church at the time. When he heard they were dead, his comment was "who old you this"? My first thought was where were the reporters from CNN? How come Cooper was getting info from people and not the crew? Shouldn't the CNN crew have people reporting close to the information being released? From the 2000 election to now this, the media has been asleep at the wheel.

13. Miners fault for being in the mine at the wrong time anyway.
The MSM will try to blame the company, but any right thinking Murcan knows that you shouldn't go into a mine just before it is going to explode.

20. No...I think most thinking people would want a cautious news source
I know that a news station that was careful in confirming news stories, so that they were extremely reliable would be my first choice. Even if they didn't report the news first, I would rather get it right.

24. Key word: thinking
All of us and a decent number of others like cautious reporting with facts. A larger number of others won't watch the news unless it's entertaining as well. Otherwise they just don't have the attention span to wait for facts.

25. I think "Cotton-Candy-Hair" Gibson and O'Reilly are now at war
with each other to see who can be the most offensive and stupid loudmouth.

They might have some jealousies over who got the most attention from the "Great War on Christmas."
