Iraq Buys 500,000 Tons Canadian Wheat

BAGHDAD (Dow Jones)--The Grain Board of Iraq has bought 500,000 metric tons of wheat from Canada and 150,000 tons of wheat from the U.S., head of the board Khalil Assi told Dow Jones newswires Sunday.

Assi said that the board has already signed contracts with Canadian and U.S. suppliers. He declined to name the companies.

He said that the deals were done on a free-on-board basis. The wheat bought from Canada was priced at $188 a ton, while that bought from the U.S. was priced at $190 a ton, he added.

1. Is your subject misleading, or is the Grain Board of Iraq
operated and owned by the U.S.?

3. No the title is not misleading unless someone is a complete idiot
If another country had its army, navy, and air force consisting of over 150,000 well armed soldiers in my country pointing guns at me I would consider myself living under a military occupation.

Wouldn't you?

Don

2. Will That Wheat Actually Get There?
Or is this another paper game...money changes hands and vanishes into the abyss that has made this invasion a war profiteer's wet dream come true.

On the surface, my gut feels this is hoping this is legitimate and this helps prevent even more suffering that Iraqi people have had to endure...starting with Hussein, turned worse by the 90's embargo and now wratcheted to major suffering by the booosh invasion.
But the corrupt nature of this regime, combined with its blatant need to put out stories in the media like this one that can be very misleading makes me suspect of whose really benefitting here.

Cheers...

5. Don't Think I Wasn't Thinking The Same Thing
This first picture I had was grain rotting on decks...merged with FEMA trailers in Arkansas.

Even better...the wheat will be "re-sold" to an Iraqi subsidiary of KBR...black market...and we all get rich.
