1. Maybe he's worried no one will be left in power to pardon him for

his own crimes. You know they've been telling him all along - just drag the case out, and say whatever we fax you - and one day we'll have Jeb (state charges) or George (federal charges)issue you a pardon. Don't worry about when - just do our bidding now.
