The RW is having a good laugh at the Liberals fighting over the Oscars

Pardon my presumption of having started another thread about this but...

"Crash", whether anyone liked it or not, addressed a relevant issue in our culture today that many people think is no longer an issue: racism. Katrina brought home just how big an issue race in this society still is.

"Brokeback Mountain", whether anyone liked it or not, broke new ground for a mainstream movie release during a time when gay rights are being used to divide us by hateful, ignorant people. It was both a commercial and a critical success when few thought that was possible.

Race, class, sexuality, gender, religion. These are ALL issues that still rage in this country. The Academy Awards recognized two films this year that addressed two issues that should be right up there at the top of EVERY liberal, progressive, Democrat's agenda and we should be proud of what both films accomplished and the dialog both have encouraged.

Instead, today we fight over who has it worse and you know what? The only people who win when we do that are the people that would rather have us fighting each other than fighting them.

They are projecting because they are happy it didn't win. So once satisfied with that they move on to their next level of shits and giggles. "If we are happy about BBM Oscar-less than the Libs must be upset." Simpletons.

Personally, I'm quite proud of how it turned out. I'm not an avid movie goer, nor do I always watch the Oscars, but did so last night because of Jon Stewart and because of the the content and issues that the nominations presented!

And one of the most interesting comments from last night was when George Clooney said he was Proud To Be Out Of Touch! As someone posted last night, that statement will make a GREAT bumper sticker, and I plan to see if I can order some made up for myself.

Since I just connected to DU today, I haven't heard much about what the Wing-Nuts are saying. Guess I'll have to check it out. But for me, they can stick it where the sun don't shine! I certainly hope we here at DU are going to get into some sort of flame war about this.

That is the message I got from Crash, it didnt address real racism at all.

It wasn't just about white racism. It's about REAL racism through the eyes of many ethnic groups. As real as I've ever seen a movie depict.

Watch the movie again reading between the lines. Better yet, get it on DVD and watch the commentary. Real shallow comment.

You mean to say that we can't jaw about what we liked/hated about the Oscars without it being consider LIBERAL IN-FIGHTING??? When did that memo get passed out? I think I was changing the ink cartridge in my fax machine.

A great movie won Best Picture. A few other great movies were nominated, and didn't win.
