Kennedy was ready to overturn Roe in 1992 but changed his mind
The Supreme Court was ready in 1992 to effectively overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion, but Justice Anthony M. Kennedy got cold feet, and the vote went the other way.

Roe is hanging on by its finger nails.

1. In the end, I honestly think Kennedy will move to the left
If you see his track record, he's been moving closer to the left every day.

2. The only thing that makes me think he won't overturn Roe is
that the SD GOP got greedy, w/ no exception for incest, rape, no matter what trimester.

3. That's huge, though.
And really dumb, imho, by South Dakota's legislature. It's a waste of taxpayer money, if you ask me.

7. I've said for a while that the repubs could have crafted legislation
to overthrow Roe v. Wade, but they won't because it gets rid of their cash cow.

The added words relating to rape and incest are just enough to have it thrown out. In the end, they'll lose the ruling and still come out on top as they rail against justices who legislate from the bench.

10. That's exactly what it's about.
They don't want Roe overturned, and this legislation is the perfect example of it. It's destined to fail. The Repubs (and that one South Dakota Dem. who authored the piece of shit) will be able to look at thier constituents and say "See, we tried". And, like you said, they'll be able to blame it on the liberal, activist judges.

Plus, they can still use it as a hotpoint issue to get like-minded folks to the polls again, just like they did with gay marriage last time.

5. How can he not be with all the other fuckers moving to the Right.
I mean all it takes to be a Democrat now a days is to care for fellow humanity.

Republicans don't even do that shit anymore.

6. Souter?
The funniest thing in that article is that Mama Bush thought Souter was an eligible bachelor.

8. I'm too old to get pregnant and I have no daughters
But I have fought and supported pro-choice for years. May be it is now time for those it does affect to stand up and be counted on this.

We are creating a country that no thinking person would want to live in.

Oh, that's right. Fundamentalists don't think. Guess they'll get the country they want. What a bunch of sheeple!
