Who do you think is the Best U.S. Senator?
I'm proud of Russ Feingold and he is my choice.

and aside from that No Child Left Behind fiasco - I love him

HOWEVER, the one I have to say Russ Feingold - he stays true to the course consistently

Kidding aside, I go with Feingold or Boxer. They're both top notch. It certainly isn't either of my senators (in Florida), though I can live with Nelson.

8. Without a doubt, Russ Feingold.
Other "good" senators play politics, pay too much attention to polls, etc. He seems really sincere and committed.

Pardon to any who deserve it who I left off. All are kicking ass and taking names, on the right subjects, the way American statesmen in the Legislative branch have in the past. We need to make it clear we support them.

11. Russ Feingold without a doubt.

He has Integrity with a capital "I".

I just wrote a letter to him concerning Alito:

Dear Senator Feingold;

In view of the fact that President Bush has admitted to breaking the law concerning warrantless wiretaps 30 times per his address on national television, and by extension has violated his oath of office 30 times, I feel that the Senate should not consider his nominee to the Supreme Court until an investigation is made into his conduct.
It's ludicrous that an admitted criminal should be allowed to appoint someone to the Supreme Court, the highest court in our land.
Not only that, in the last few days he has made 17 recess appointments which should be put on hold until he is investigated.
It is incumbent upon the congress to either hold open, televised hearings into the matter or appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate before any more action is taken about Judge Alito.

Sincerely,
Shari Milks

Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 02:11 PM by blm
Speeches? The tough battles they took on? Best tv interview for 2005? Who did the most to change the world for the better?

I'm gonna go with the senators who DID the most to change this world for the better - Eugene McCarthy, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. And a special nod to Paul Wellstone.

Not only did he shed his racist past decades ago, he's a champion for the individual against a monolithic executive branch.

I really like Boxer, she seems to be he straightest shooter.

but also have much goodwill towards
Kennedy
Durbin
Feingold
Kerry
Byrd

While I'm at it, least favorites from Dem. Party:

Lieberman
Clinton
Biden

Many of the others are in the middle or I don't know enough about to have an informed opinion.

But any of the seven who have voted consistently for progressive causes.

These include:
Boxer
Kennedy
Kerry
Corzine
Lautenberg
Sarbanes
Reed (RI)

I would not put Levin in that category, especially since he sponsored an amendment to eliminate habeas corpus the other day.

I also think very highly of our Senate leader, Reid, who has been wonderful.

Honorable mentions to Byrd, Clinton, and a few others. (Yes, Clinton, in spite of her horrible position on Iraq. The rest of her votes are near perfect.)

These guys are the top of the heap. I still like Feingold the best because of his intestinal fortitude. But those seven liberals are all top of the heap with him.
