What Banning Abortion Means: An Explosion of Children in Foster Care

Just like abstinence until marriage has lead to skyrocketing divorce rates, outlawing abortion will lead an explosion of children in foster care. These same legislators will then become the de-facto parents for these children which will make their states poorer and poorer.

Moreover, these states will lose independent, smart women who won't want to live in state wherein they're treated like their husband's chattle. They will leave and take their potential high incomes with them. This will also make these states poorer.

SECOND...I've decided thta I'm adopting a child. I decided before all this but I think there ought to be some requirement that the government provides EXTENSIVE tax breaks for those who adopt.

Increased need for schools and daycares. Increased need for assistance - more women and children living in poverty. Unwanted children tend to be abused children. Abused children tend to grow up have more learning disabilities, more likely to drop out of school, more likely to break the law, more likely to engage in risk-taking behaviour (drugs, drinking, sex. . .)

And lots of women who are horribly mutilated, have ruined health, and are no longer considered "useful" as the breeders or sex objects their Patriarchal masters view them as. But screw that meaningless triviality! We at DU care about the children!

First and foremost we have to give women the choice to privacy and to manage their own bodies and that includes safe on demand abortions.


In the meantime we have to try to save the unwanted children that are going to come out of this debacle.

I suggest the Dems push VERY HARD to promote Sex Ed! I don't really GAS if the same people who condemn abortions don't approve of contraception! It really IS much easier, cheaper, healthier, and better for EVERYONE for any female of an age to reproduce to take a pill or wear a patch! If people can't afford them, they SHOULD be paid for under Medicaid!

I can't imagine ANY woman wanting to have an abortion! If she doesn't want a baby, I'm positive she would much rather just never get pregnant!

I didn't take the class, but my BIL took a class in college called "108 Methods of Birth Control". I remember thinking it was pretty funny at the time! I can't even imagine THAT many!

To say foster care, or abandoned babies are going to be the result of this rush to abolish abortions is just foolish! STOP the pregnancies before they occur!

The county was a rural agricultural county and has turned into an uppermiddle class bedroom community with one of the top income levels in GA. The working poor, farmers, elderly and old time people from the county are being squeezed by development and high taxes. And, of course, none of the new rich white Republican citizens want to be foster parents.

Edit: The local RW weekly rag had recent news story about the need for foster parents but, of course, no mention of the reasons why there were not enough foster families.
