Wow, so ..looks like some DU'ers are going to ask for a purge again
What with the current anti-conspiracy theory threads popping up, I'm going to theorize some of you have gotten into your heads that you must be rid of the conspiracy people here at DU, otherwise something bad will happen... or something, I mean none of you have very explained yourselves very well except on the most way out of theories in tense times (weather control during the tsunami aftermath was understandable from a DU standpoint).

Maybe you are just hot under the collar with all the speculation you just don't agree with?

Yet why stifle it, why impose your censorship? Oh thats right because the people on the other side of the aisle whose great American plan includes converting, incarcerating, kicking out or killing the more Liberals folks in this country, might think or say something bad about us if we get it wrong?

Posterity sake? The less we speculate the less we are wrong and the easier it is of you to sleep at night knowing the boat hasn't been rocked with wrong information.

You can't do it without some sort of proof? Well if we had proof it wouldn't be called a theory anymore would it?

You need better sources!? Like what!? The NYT, WaPo, MSRNC, Faux, CON? Government reports, think tank reports? All.. every last one of them lies to further an some agenda along, at least somewhat frequently. That is no conspiracy theory and you all know it.

So why stifle thought and discussion, I understand that admin already censors out the very worst of it. Not good enough for you folks that hate the people who see possible conspiracy theories and want to talk about it though, is it?

I've seen a few threads deriding those who have come to a different conclusion by calling it like they see it. Which is no differ nt than those who wont believe a damn thing till some paid official report comes out confirming it. Now you believe it, but you will still damn anyone who speculated without knowing for sure.

Bottom line is if a theory is so bad that it will damage this site and the party and thereby the entire world ( no really thats what some of you sound like stating your case... which funny enough sounds a little theoretical to me in of itself or maybe theatrical would be better), well just hit alert. Thats what its there for.

To take it to the point of constant derision ( and let me remind most of you that "conspiracy theory", "tinfoil" was what they used to color the anti-war people before the war.. we were right on almost every damn thing that happened and those who called us that were dead wrong, big vast amounts of dead wrong and they'll be even more dead wrong when all those extremely well trained terrorists take the fight to other countries innocents.. but yeah conspiracy me indeed).

So just to let you "nothing but your approved source and gov report" types know, you might need to really think about where you are coming from on multiple levels before trying to start another purge here.

Consider this a pre-emption of such action. I mean by all means consider talk about getting rid of us or somehow shutting us up but understand that at least half of the posters on this site fall into the opposite category, and if you believe we will sit here and take it you would be also dead wrong with that theory.

Now to finish up here with some caveats. I am not saying anyone has called explicitly for a purge of CTers (conspiracy theorists), I am not saying that all of you who aren't CT'ers are monolithic in your despise for CT'ers (I hope you're not anyway), I am not saying you are always wrong (quite the contrary I think we need a healthy mix of skeptics and CT'ers problem is the skeptics always want to kick the CT'ers around for doing what CT'ers do- speculate until we find a common link, investigate then discard or keep the info).

What I am trying to say here is if its bad alert on it if nothing happens that means it meets the current DU rules and that you are SOL.
Whatever you all do please don't try and start another purge like after Kos purged last year. DU would be much less rich for a lack of these kind of posters just as it would be without the never speculate posters.

I mean am I being fair enough here? Can we call a truce on this before it begins?

Please keep the flames down to a low simmer here, if you would be so kind as that is not the point of this post.

4. Oh dear.
The next time a "Bush CAUSED _____________! (insert mine disaster/London bombs/Tsunami/Katrina/whatever) thread comes up, wait until someone like me comes on and politely states the case that he didn't. Then wait and see how many tinfoilers jump on him/her. And that's your idea of free speech? Automatically assuming every conspiracy to be true?

DU is not enriched by the tinfoilers (a term that was NOT applied to anti-war types before the war, and don't try to claim that), it is impoverished of proper adult debate and becames a place where a bunch of factless infantile fear-ridden naked speculation is validated by its peer group because it would be questioned elsewhere - and I say from experience, you get heavily flamed by aggressive tinfoilers if you try pointing out the absurd errors in theories like Bush caused a Tsunami.

So - you guys tone it down first, that's what I'm saying.

Now watch what happens to me.

19. Oh! YOU'RE The One Calling For A Purge
I must have missed your purge thread! Will those of us who stay out of those threads entirely be purged as well? I hope not! You know, since you're taking over and all.

8. Stifle It?
Who asked for that? If you want to engage in those sort of thought experiments, nobody is trying to stop you! I read those threads. I certainly didn't see anybody encouraging a purge.

I think you're overreacting on this. Have your opinions. Post them. We're all allowed to pretty much think whatever we want around here.

11. "conspiracy theory", "tinfoil" was what they used to color ...
the anti-war people before the war..."

Amen. When 9-11 hit I told some people that I felt the Bush Admin would blame it on Afghanistan, as the oil business was failing to get a pipeline contract through it to the Caspian Sea. They thought I had on a tinfoil hat then.

Guess what - there's a pipeline being built through Afghanistan.

Then I said they'd figure out how to attack Iraq to get some kind of control over the Middle East. Hat back on.

Hmmmm...

I'm just saying that some seeming CTs may only seem so because the listener doesn't have as much information, which could cause it to seem far-fetched.

14. Didn't Abramoff just plead guilty to conspiracy?
Yes he did. What's all the fuss with the theory? Isn't theorizing good?

Censorship is far more dangerous than theorizing about possible conspiracies.

aren't you one of 'them'? fuck low simmer and f-U. This is where ideas are born, issues discussed and truth unfurled, without a little tin foil NO deep issues would be discussed, uncovered or whatever. NO post on this site will harm the democratic party, the country or the world- it's a discussion forum asshat.

Wasn't domestic spying a conspiricy theory????????????????????????????????????????????FU

18. Wasn't Aware Of Such a Campaign
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 03:56 PM by Me.
But having found myself called a CT (by family & friends) because of saying in 2000 that B***co would be wicked evil for this country, that there were no WMDs and later on, LIHOP, Rove is guilty, they've bankrupted us etc., just for starters, people who call me that don't bother me. What I have learned in the last 5 years under the tutelage of this administration is that nothing beyond the realm of possibility.

If this is a serious problem the admins will step in and sort it out. Most people on DU tend to move along if they feel there's nothing to see or they don't agree with the OP. Those who don't are entitled to their opinions. Just as you are entitled to yours and brave for stating it.
