The Reverends Grace Nwachukwu (L), Patrick Mahoney (C) and Rob Schenck (R) prepare to anoint the doors of the hearing room in the US Senate Hart Building in which Judiciary Committee will conduct hearings for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, Jr.
========

WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 /Christian Wire Service/ -- The hearing room that will be used next week by the US Senate Judiciary Committee in the confirmation process for Judge Samuel A. Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court, was consecrated today by anointing oil and prayers offered by three ministers.

The Reverends Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), an Evangelical minister and president of the National Clergy Council, Patrick Mahoney, a Presbyterian and director of the Christian Defense Coalition and Grace Nwachukwu, a Pentecostal and officer with the Association of Female Clergy, conducted a 15-minute service outside the doors of Room 216, an austere chamber in the US Senate Hart Building frequently used for televised proceedings including recent confirmation hearings for Chief Justice John Roberts.

The service included Bible readings, prayers and a quote from America's first chief justice, John Jay, who wrote to a colleague in 1818, "The moral or natural law was given by the Sovereign of the universe to all mankind; with them it was co-eval, and with them it will be co-existent. Being founded by infinite wisdom and goodness on essential right, which never varies, it can require no amendment or alteration."

The ministers explained to reporters that the service was not a pro- or anti-Alito statement, but was meant to commit the confirmation process, one of the most important acts of government, to the will of God.

"We deliberately ended our service of consecration with the Lord's prayer, " said Reverend Schenck, "because it includes the appeal, 'Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.' That was our purpose, to give this process to God and pray that His will and not our own prevails."

9. They are calling him "UNCLE SAM" Alito >>>
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Eugene Delgaudio, President of Public Advocate of the U.S., a national pro-family group based in Northern Virginia, will launch the group's "Confirm 'Uncle Sam' Alito" Grassroots Campaign at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 10:00 AM.

Confirm "Uncle Sam" Alito Press Conference

When: Friday, January 6, 2006 at 10:00 AM

Where: National Press Club, Murrow Room, 529 14th St, NW, Washington, DC 20045

Who: Eugene Delgaudio, President of Public Advocate, a national group with over 50,000 members that supports the Alito Nomination.

Why: Public Advocate, which opposed both the Roberts and Miers nominations, supports Judge Alito because of his commitment to interpreting the constitution and the law in a manner consistent with their originally meaning rather than making political policy decisions from the bench.

Delgaudio will provide the media with samples of the material that Public Advocate will use to promote the nomination, such as lapel stickers, rally and yard signs, and sports-type pennants that use a character of Judge Alito based upon the famous "Uncle Sam" cartoon. Delgaudio will also announce the group's strategy in targeting key swing Senators on a grassroots level for the Alito vote.

After a brief statement, he will be available to the media for questions.

So much for the constitution! The Dems must fillibuster Alito. This is the lynchpin of the neocon strategy to legally absolve the dictator of his crimes, past, present and future.

18. I wonder . . .
what the guards would do if a Wiccan, Hindu, Islamic, Native American Church or some other religious group came up and wanted to consecrate the same hearing room to the Goddess of Liberty, or Freedom or Allah? Probably arrest them and declare them enemies of the state. I also wonder if the Association of Female Clergy would accept me as a member? I'm female and I've been ordained a high priestess by my teaching circle, a 501(c)(3)non-profit religious organization chartered in the State of Maryland as a pagan church. I think I'll check them out.

36. The annointing of the doors?..just plain creepy..
I am perfectly ok with people I vote for being religious. I just don't care to KNOW how or whom they worship.

They are little more to me than a hired voice in government. I expect them to look out for my interests. If praying helps them, great..JUST do not drag prayer in your official capacity..:grr:

If I want religion, I know where to find it. If we elect a priest, that's one thing, but we do not elect priests (at least we haven't yet )

39. Let me get this straight
So, in other words: A radical cleric associated with a known terrorist organization (Schenck is the co-founder of Operation Rescue), that has engaged in acts of violence against Americans, invaded the Capitol building and disseminated a foreign substance in a Senate committee chamber. Am I right???

Of course, I'm surprised that anything in either house of Congress, when annointed or blessed, doesn't immediately burst into flames......

A Native American, Wiccan, Hindu, or other minority religion going into the U.S. Capitol building to do this. They'd be arrested on the spot!

I swear, New Zealand is looking better and better. I was going to move to Australia, but it sounds like they've got their own problems with racism Down Under.
