AARRGGHH!!! Do they think were STUPID? (Iran's "provocative" statements).

The ABC News story on the "provocative" / "harm and pain" statement from Iran goes (in part) like this:

I'm sure everyone in the White House forgot what "context" was a long time ago. But the people (I hope)... and ABC News (doubtful) have retained SOME common sense?

First of all, the full statement read "The United States has the power to cause harm and pain. But the United States is also susceptible to harm and pain. So if that is the path that the U.S. wishes to choose, let the ball roll."

Bush and the White House have been, both implicitly and explicitly, threatening Iran for years now. This statement is simply a response to those threats.

It was BUSH who branded Iran as one of the "Axis of Evil".
It was BUSH who invaded, conquered and occupied the first member of that Axis - Iraq.
It is BUSH who has used nearly identical language and tactics about Iran as he did about Iraq before we invaded.
It is BUSH who has consistently made the point that "all options" are open against Iran.

Isn't starting a war of choice against a nation that posed no threat "provocative"?

Really, it's obvious who's been making provocative statements and actions regarding that part of the world for the past few years. And it's not Iran.

The victim is the aggressor, the invader the aggrieved.

he's speaking to his base. This what they expect to hear, is all the justification they require for us to lob an H Bomb at Tehran.

That point of no return will arrive soon -- Russia and China will veto any real sanctions or resolution authorizing the use of force at the UNSC. That means that either:

1) any sanctions that all the members of the SC might impose will be largely symbolic; or

2) the US and/or Israel will take unilateral action wihout UN support; or

3) the Council will reject the US hard-line position, and failing to put togther a consensus on face-saving symbolic sanctions, the Bush Administration failed arm-twisting at the UN will be cast as yet another abject failure of its policies, and this will hasten the fall of the regime.

Personally, I think 1) face-saving symbolic sanctions are most likely.

As an aggregate, Americans ARE stupid.

What more proof do you need than the last decade of republican rule?
