The decline in AMA membership....hmmmmm, here's a hint
Psssst, AMA: Stop putting out statements about the dangers of spring break (dangerous for girls only, of course) and start speaking out against medieval medicine! You can start immediately with the rapist-rights bill in South Dakota! You were silent on the Schiavo case. You were silent on pharmacists refusing to fill legal contraception prescriptions. You wonder why physicians are dropping membership...really?

Get a clue!!!!

<snip source> AMA membership has dropped 20 percent since 1993, and was down to 244,530 as of the end of 2004, representing less than 30 percent of the more than 800,000 doctors in the United States.

2. What's funny about this fact....
The AMA can't seem to figure out why!!!!!! :dunce:

I know 3 physicians who quit SPECIFICALLY because of the Schiavo case. Bet they lose a few thousand more after taking no public stand against South Dakota's forced pregnancy law.

3. I have a cousin who went through medical school, residency etc.
When he finally got to the point he was a real doctor - in Philadelphia about 10 years ago - he could only find a job at a HMO. His great income - which he spent about 12 years in higher education to get the degree - would have been $80,000 a year. Not a bad salary, but he could have spent 3 years in school to be a lawyer for the same amount.

So they are killing the medical profession from all ends. Insurance, jobs, salaries.

4. They're also not lobbying for single payer insurance
which is pissing a lot of good docs off. They see people every day who have lost insurance or who are being buried under multiple copays to the point of bankruptcy. They know the system is broken beyond repair and needs to be radically reformed or it will devolve into a system for the rich, only.

They'd better get their act together on more than the boneheaded tort reform idea, another thing that pisses the good and careful docs off. They want to punish that 5% of docs that account for 50% of the insurance payouts. They want insurance giants to stop compensating for a bad stock market on their backs. They really do want their patients to get a fair deal.

The AMA doesn't seem to give a shit about anything but Repuglican idiocy.

5. That's exactly right, Warpy.
Physicians have seen the failed experiment of "managed care" and many physicians are saying with disgust, "The ONLY thing the AMA cares about is tort reform."
