WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A bomb that killed six civilians Monday near Baiji, Iraq, missed its target by 65 feet (20 meters) and hit the wrong home, military officials said.

The bomb, which was dropped by a U.S. fighter plane, was aimed at a building that three men entered after planting a roadside bomb as an unmanned surveillance plane watched from overhead, the officials said.

A U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter jet strafed the building before the bomb was dropped, according to a U.S. military statement released after the nighttime attack.

<snip>

The strike flattened a family's home, killing six of the family members and wounding three others, said a spokesman for the Salaheddin provincial governor's office. A father and daughter survived with only minor injuries, he said.

... Sadly but not surprisingly, not even a fucking apology from the occupying murderers....

3. Our poor soldiers
Probably have little to do with the intelligence or instructions to bomb certain places, but I'm betting they are getting a lot of blame. That's a lot of guilt to carry around.

5. um... oops... sorry, hadjis, our bad!
On the other hand, there are those Jeebofascist bigots (many of them Air Force Evangelical Academy grads) who equate collateral damage with "makin' good progress."

7. Geez. When I read that a bomb had killed a bunch of innocents
in Iraq, I just assumed it was set off by some terraist dead ender in his last throes. After all, we sinless Americans just don't do things like that, and we never make mistakes (at least if we're Rs).

At least the surviving members of the dead can rest easy knowing that their family members were killed for a noble cause! I bet the feelings of freedom and democracy are pretty overwhelming just about now. This might be a good time to see if they'd like a line of credit through MBNA...or maybe they have some water rights to sell to Bechtel to finance the funerals.

Might as well give 'em the full spectrum of what awaits them in the "freedom" corporate America has to offer.

8. Newspaper made it sound like they hit right house, killed children though.
Now we find they hit the wrong house and everyone killed was innocent. Yet another crime.

11. What if TV gave the same amount of coverage time-wise to this as Miners?
And repeated the practice for every veteran, civilian, reporter, or so called insurgent that is killed or injured in Iraq?

I bet that would bring a quick end to the war.

Book sitting on my lap that I plan on reading next: "Freedom of the Press" by George Seldes written in 1935, some things never change...
