Woman Says She Was Fired Over Her Bumper Sticker

Last Updated:

A North County woman said she was fired from her job because she had a liberal radio station's bumper sticker on her car.

Linda Laroca is suing her former employer, Advantage Sales and Marketing, for damages.

The lawsuit was filed last month and says Laroca's former boss saw the Air America' sticker, and told her, "for all I know, you could be Al Qaeda." Her boss then said, "I'm going to have to fire you."

The story was aired on the radio station and has sparked outrage among its listeners.

"I think it's very important to have both voices expressed on the radio, the right and the left," said KLSD programming director Cliff Albert.

The company has not commented on the suit.

1. Wow. This happened in the San Diego area.
That's nutso. Sounds more like southern Missouri.

Something tells me she'll win her lawsuit. The neo-nazis are about to be kicked out into the cold where they belong.

2. Sounds like there is more here than meets the eye.
I don't the real reason she was fired, but it is almost never over a bumper sticker. 99 % of people are not that stupid to fire someone over a bumper sticker.

She worked at the place for three weeks, so she was still under an employee probation period. The idiot manager just could have said, "sorry, you are no longer needed"

Of course, she might just have worked for that 1% that is that stupid

Any moran would know that's a losing lawsuit waiting to happen. Hopefully you are right and it's one of the 1% or maybe a Freeper who fired her....

4. I'm not so sure she'll win her suit
Since political position is not a protected category, especially if she is an at-will employee, the company may have the right to fire her for it. They might also be able to argue that having the sticker on her car in company-owned areas constitutes solicitation.
