I was proud of my Mom earlier today

Earlier today my Mom and I went out to do some errands together and on the way home she had on a local radio station that plays the "top twenty" type of songs. Melissa Ethridge's new song came on the radio and it's about breast cancer. I'm not sure of the name so I'm sure someone here will probably know the song. Anyways, when we got home and the song was over my Mom and I started just talking about the song. She said she asked our church's preacher's wife if she heard the song. The preacher's wife's reply was "isn't she the one that's gay?" My mom said that it shouldn't matter if you're gay or not and that breast cancer doesn't care if you're gay or not. I was proud of my mom for standing up to the preacher's wife. It's always hard to speak out. And also this caused me to think that Bush isn't trying to be like Hitler at all. He's using the same tactics but he's doing the opposite. If Bush was trying to take over the world he would be at least protecting our boarders but he doesn't even do that. Hitler also liked science and used it for his "mission." Bush is the opposite and he tries to shut scientists up (see the NASA deal with global warming). He's a really confusing character. One guy in Michael Moore's film made a good point and said this wasn't about taking over the world: just making a lot of money. Where as Hitler's "mission" was about an ideolague and a belief that even people still believe today (Skinheads for example). This conversation with my Mom I think made me realize that.

she's no longer a republican. She hasn't changed her affiliation yet but now she's an independent. :) We're both huge Kerry fans.

For being so astute at your age. I talk to people many years older than you who still have not managed to think for themselves. You obviously have. Good on you, and try to have a happy life. This is not an easy thing when you can actually think.

Someone was talking about "Brokeback Mountain" to my Mom the other day.

They were saying that there is no way there could have been "Gay cowboys!"

My Mom, 85 plus, said," Get real,cowboys and cowgirls could and can be homosexuals! What planet do you live on!"

Your Mother is a Compassionate person. And isn't it great how very liberating speech is, especially when you don't get angry, but simply speak the truth about anything, to Anyone. I hope you keep on speaking to others.

I'm around some Qaukers, though I'm not one myself, but there's always a lot of learning going on around the Friends. Speaking the truth courageously and effectively/peacefully is something they teach and practice amongst themselves.

You're right! about Bush; he's limited and, hence, INCOMPETENT, except as a puppet for Cheney. But also, there's something more seriously evil in Long standing plans for war, that's something that is hard to forget. These people WANT (wants, wanted) WAR!!! We are War Slaves.

Your Mom is right; Christians are called to Care, not judge anyone but themselves. To me "God" (whatever that is) created Gays too.

And - Some people have turned "God" into themselves, as a result god's getting very small and weak. He may die. He can't handle all of the bad things we do, what people do in the privacy of their bedrooms hurts him, and he is anxious to punish us for whatever, but not for war. Wars are God's will to some people. I think they are proof positive of malfeasance in the president's office.

Cancer is one of those close to home things. We've lost a couple of people in our family to cancer (mostly lung). My grandfather (mom's dad) had lung cancer and died last year just a few days later after my birthday and her aunt/uncle both died of lung cancer and another one of her aunts (my grandfather's sister) died of breast cancer. She was a nurse who worked in the military during WWII. So it's a close to home thing.
